It’s been just more than a year since Rachael Finch launched her online health and fitness program Body By Finch and the Australian model and media personality says she’s only just getting started.
When WHO speaks to 30-year-old Finch, she’s just about to head to Los Angeles to share her holistic app Body By Finch – which incorporates HIIT workouts, meditation and healthy, family-friendly food.
“We’ve just had such an amazing response,” she says. “We’re really excited to go to LA, and actually get a lot of sign-ups from America, so we just thought it was a natural progression, and while we can, we may as well give it a crack,” the ambitious businesswoman – who works with her husband Michael Miziner – reveals.
The couple, who are parents to 6-year-old daughter Violet and 2-year-old son Dominic, plan to head to the States alone, leaving their tots in the loving arms of their grandmothers. “We’re only away for eight days. Violet’s at school, so we’ve got Michael’s mum, which is Violet’s grandma, coming to stay with us, and my mum is flying down from Queensland.
The two grandmas are going to be at home with the kids.” One look at Finch’s Instagram and it’s obvious the family orientated star feeds her children a healthy diet – however, she has come under fire for not allowing unhealthy food in her kids’ diets in the past. “I think, for me, ever since I was pregnant, I was eating healthy … it’s basically just really healthy stuff.
They were having that from infancy, from in my tummy, and then when they came out it was breastmilk until about seven months, but then I just naturally started blending up veg, and Violet loves broccoli, she loves cauliflower, same with Dom,” she says.
However, even the former model says her children have good days and bad. “Some days it is not as easy as others. Kids don’t feel like vegetables all day long.” So what are her tricks? “I try to blend them into things, like they had a smoothie this morning with about a cup of spinach and some avocado and bananas and things like that,” she reveals.
And come afternoon, “We make slices and cakes, but I’ll put some green superfoods in, or blend up some zucchini inside of a savoury muffin.” Asked if her kids have been exposed to processed foods, Finch maintains her family indulges in an occasional dessert. “They’ve had stuff at kids’ birthdays, like when they go to a friend’s birthday party and there’s cake, of course they’ll have a piece of cake to celebrate with their friends. If they go out on the weekend, when we’re out for a special occasion, we’ll definitely have a treat.”
In a world where mothers are open to scrutiny online, the influencer is not afraid to suggest: “[For my family] 20 per cent is treat and 80 per cent is healthy.” Regardless, no matter how many events she has on, where she’s doing ground training sessions: Finch admits: “As a mother, I’m trying to do as much as I can.”
