Given its massive worldwide box office haul – currently sitting at over $US875 million – and its success at the recent Academy Awards, rumours are circulating about a potential sequel to Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody

With the Oscar-winning film ending with Queen’s performance at Live Aid in 1985, there is plenty of scope to continue the story of the rock band through the rest of the 1980s and up until singer Freddie Mercury’s death in 1991 (and even beyond, with the band having continued to perform in the decades since, most recently with Adam Lambert).

Music video director Rudi Dolezal told Page Six, “I’m sure [Queen manager Jim Beach] plans a sequel that starts with Live Aid,” adding that a second part is “being heavily discussed in the Queen family.”

Queen guitarist Brian May has previously spoken about the prospect of a sequel, saying, “This is all about Freddie, and I think Live Aid is a good point to leave it. Who knows, there might be a sequel!”

The only person not in the loop about the sequel is Rami Malek, who won an Oscar for his portrayal of Mercury. According to the Page Six story, a source close to the actor stated Malek had not heard anything about a second film. Watch this space!
