Dua Lipa helped me find my wedding dress… and I’m not even in a relationship

One kiss is all it takes!

I consider Dua Lipa and me somewhat kindred spirits. She’s a Leo, I’m a Leo. She has a penchant for conventionally attractive men; I have a penchant for conventionally attractive men. She’s a multi-talented songwriter; I am a somewhat talented…writer. You get the gist.

Naturally, when the 30-year-old pop star stepped out for her courthouse nuptials to actor Callum Turner at London’s Old Marylebone Town Hall on 30 May, I knew I was going to love whatever she wore.

However, as Dua traded the more conventional white gown and veil for a wide-brimmed hat and chic bridal suit, I can say with my full chest that I’m not just a fan of her outfit, I’ve been influenced.

The custom ivory skirt suit by Daniel Rosberry for Schiaparelli was reminiscent of Bianca Jagger’s iconic Yves Saint Laurent look for her 1971 wedding to Mick – a look that famously inspired Zendaya’s 2025 Met Gala suit.

For a civil ceremony, this type of restrained yet powerful outfit is the perfect contender. A well-cut skirt suit offers brides the best of both worlds: the drama of traditional bridalwear with the sophistication of modern tailoring.

And while the style set is loving the cultural reference in Dua’s unconventional bridal look, I’d like to think that it’s a sign that we’re divorcing the idea that every bride must step out in a gown with a sweetheart neck or an ungodly amount of lace (to be fair, I am a big fan of lace).

Rather than dressing to fit a bridal ideal, brides like Dua are choosing looks that feel authentic to their everyday style and identity. This shift almost mirrors how many women approach marriage: practical and still true to themselves.

Much like Charli XCX’s Vivienne Westwood midi dress for her wedding in Hackney Town Hall, Dua’s bridal ensemble was still completely bespoke while bucking the trend of a romantic gown.

This simply reinforces that, like shorter dresses or even jumpsuits, the wedding suit doesn’t necessarily reject tradition; it simply reframes it through a contemporary lens.

Sure, Dua might be saving her big, traditional, princess-like dress for her rumoured three-day celebrations in Sicily. But, if, like me, you’re all for the tailored two-piece, here are the best bridal suiting looks to say “I do” in.
