Ahead of the 2026 Golden Globe Awards, see which Australian stars are leading the nominations and how likely they are to take home the trophies.

Rose Byrne

It may be her first nomination in the film category, but this Sydneysider has won over critics and fans alike with her gripping performance in If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.

Rose, who has previously been nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance in TV drama Damages, is nominated for Lead Actress in a Comedy or Musical. She plays Linda, a psychotherapist and mother, who is pushed to her limits, in what Variety called “the performance of a lifetime”.

What’s more, Rose has already had Best Actress wins at the New York Film Critics Circle, Los Angeles Film Critics Association and the National Board of Review. The only other person this century who won all three of those prizes was Helen Mirren when she played the late Queen Elizabeth II in The Queen.

Speaking to Deadline, Rose admitted that she’s “thrilled and honoured” to be nominated alongside actresses Kate Hudson, Emma Stone, Cynthia Erivo, Amanda Seyfried and Chase Infiniti.

“Our movie is such a tiny movie, and the movie is the character, and the character is the movie. So, this nomination feels like a true acknowledgement of Mary Bronstein’s singular, brilliant, unique, and extraordinary film,” she shared.

What’s more, Rose currently topping the odds of 1.14 on Sportsbet to win, so we have all our fingers crossed for her!

Jacob Elordi

This Brisbane boy may have risen to fame with teen hits like The Kissing Booth and Euphoria, but Jacob Elordi could be taking home the gong for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture.

He’s already won the Critics Choice Award for playing The Creature and to say he committed to the role is an understatement.

According to W Magazine, Jacob not only had to spend hours in hair and makeup for the prosthetics, but also trained in butoh, a form of Japanese dance-theatre that he said is like “reanimating a corpse”.

Jacob’s current odds on Sportsbet are 2.88, just behind Stellan Skarsgard who is nominated for his role in Sentimental Value.

Sarah Snook

Whether you know her as the intimidating Shiv Roy on Succession or for her impressive theatre credits, Sarah Snook has taken the world by storm.

The Adelaide-born actress is up for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Limited Series, Anthology Series, or a Motion Picture Made for Television for her role in thriller, All Her Fault.

In the miniseries, Sarah plays mother Marissa Irvine who arrives to collect her five-year-old son from a playdate, only to find he had never been there in the first place.

Whilst she won the Critics Choice Award for her performance, not even Sarah was prepared to take home the prize admitting that she “didn’t write a speech or anything” on stage.

However, the odds are in her favour for another win at the Golden Globes as she’s currently on 1.72 on Sportsbet.

Joel Edgerton

Up against some Hollywood heavyweights in the Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama category is Sydney star Joel Edgerton for his role in Train Dreams.

In the adaptation of the novella of the same name, Joel plays Robert Grainier, a logger and railroad worker in early 20th century America.

“Robert is kind of an everyman in the sense that what we might hope for; sensitive, honest and attuned to people and things in the environment around him,” Joel described his character.

However, he is not as likely to win as some of his fellow Aussies with odds of 11. Wagner Moura has odds of 1.25 for his performance in The Secret Agent whilst Michael B. Jordan has 3 for Sinners.

Australian talent isn’t just limited to the actors, however.

Other nominees at this year’s Golden Globes include Nick Cave who alongside Bryce Dessner is up for Best Original Song for his song Train Dreams that appears in the film of the same name’s closing credits.

In the TV category, Shannon Murphy is up for her show Dying For Sex, on which she worked as both executive producer and director on six of the show’s eight episodes.
