‘Harvey’ remake in the works at Netflix

The six-foot rabbit from the 1950s classic is coming back to the big screen!

One of the most popular films in the 50s, there’s been dozens of attempts by well-respected writers like Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks to bring ‘Harvey’ and the 6-foot rabbit back to life.

Now, a remake of Jimmy Stewart’s black-and-white film is in the works at Netflix. And ‘Shrek 2’ writers, J. David Stem and David. N Weiss are set to adapt and Penn the film.

In the original, Stewart, who earned an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of Elwood P. Dowd, starred as an affluent drunk with an imaginary friend that only he can see – a rabbit named Harvey. Worried that he is going insane, his sister Veta (played by…) tries to have Dowd committed. Hilariously, the doctor assessing Elwood instead finds Veta insane!

The movie was based off Mary Chase’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play and has been brought to the small screen over five times.

The original film is currently available to stream on Netflix.
