Speaking to TV Week, the reality star reflected on the origin of her TV career, which began with her time on season six of The Bachelor.
“It’s been quite challenging for me at various points,” she admitted while discussing the duality of working in politics and joining the dating show.
“I’ve definitely had judgement along the way, but I’m really glad looking back on it [that she did the show].”
The communications expert has recently launched her own political podcast, In the House and In the Senate, where she interviews a number of impressive people from Australian politics about their experiences.
When asked if she ever thought The Bachelor would land her with a political podcast, she replied with, “I think I hope so.”
“I think a lot of the time I move through life and my subconscious is making decisions for me,” she laughed.
Although her time on television has seen Alisha launch an awesome career, the original decision was met by confusion from her colleagues in politics.
Having been involved with the Labor Party since her early university days, they couldn’t help but wonder why she’d leave politics to go on reality TV.
“At the time, the mood of the room was that Bill Shorten was the next Prime Minister of Australia,” Alisha said.
“People were like ‘you’re silly, why would you give up a chance to work for the PM to go on a reality TV show?’” she added.
However, the podcast host countered with an important message – that she just wanted to do what made her happy and that ultimately, The Bachelor opened up so many opportunities for her.
“We have to just do the things we want to do. Don’t let anyone dictate or judge you for your choices, as long as it’s making you happy and not hurting anyone else,” she said.
Alisha seems to have wrangled the best of both worlds, keeping a foot in politics via the podcast, and finding love via reality TV.
Although the bachelor on her season, Nick Cummins, was not destined for her, Alisha found love with partner Glenn Smith, who she met on Bachelor in Paradise.
Alisha even moved across the country to be with him, and they now reside in Perth.
