It’s the show that’s launched so many into stardom so we have a lot to thank Australian Idol for.
Taking every day Aussies and transforming them into pop stars, the show has been on and off the air since 2003 but where are the winners today?
Season one: Guy Sebastian
Today people are still arguing that Shannon Noll was robbed of the very first Idol victory but season one winner Guy Sebastian is arguably one of the biggest names in the Australian music industry.
Since winning, he’s released 11 studio albums, served as a judge on The Voice Australia and performed alongside international stars such as John Mayer, Eve and Jordin Sparks.
Guy is about to embark on the 100 Times Around The Sun tour, his biggest yet, which will see him perform across Australia.
After marrying his sweetheart Jules in 2008, he has also become a father to sons Hudson and Archie.

Season two: Casey Donovan
Since beating Anthony Callea in 2004, Casey has taken Australia by storm.
From winning I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! to playing Matron Mama Morton on stage in Chicago and even performing with Idol judge Marcia Hines, she’s dipped her toe into the many waters of entertainment.
Casey’s also about to go on tour around Australia with a show covering her entire career, This Is Me.
Personally, she’s also spoken about her IVF battle with fiancee Renee Sharples.
Season three: Kate DeAraugo
Her win against Emily Williams was all the way back in 2005 but Kate has had some huge ups and downs since then.
In 2017, the season three winner was convicted of drug possession, drug driving and weapons possession but fast forward to now, not only is she sober but she’s spoken about her struggles on her and co-host Claudia Coy’s podcast Why Do I Feel This Way?
Kate’s also celebrated her decades music career from her Idol days to her Young Divas girl group era with a 20th anniversary tour.
A proud mum-of-two to sons Hudson and Noah, she’s also engaged to fiancé Shan Riseley (who proposed beneath the Eiffel Tower no less).

Season four: Damien Leith
His runner-up Jessica Mauboy has done pretty well for herself but what about 2006’s winner?
With 12 albums and an ARIA Award under his belt, the Irish-born singer is still making music and touring around Australia. His most recent track Heart Love was released in February 2026.
Damien is married to wife Eileen Stapleton and has three children.
Season five: Natalie Gauci
She stole victory from Matt Corby in 2007 but did you know Australian Idol isn’t the only music reality show she’s appeared on.
After releasing her first two albums, she was on The Voice Australia and even appeared on Australian Idol alum Guy Sebastian’s team. She then released a third album in 2020.
A mum-of-one, Natalie now runs singing lessons and has released her own music. In November 2025, she released her song I Survived in alliance with National Survivor’s Day.
Season six: Wes Carr
2008 winner Wes Carr sung his way to victory against Luke Dickens in the final, but these days he’s keeping things a bit more low-key.
Whilst he’s released numerous albums and will perform at the This Is Livin’ festival in Queensland’s Rainbow Beach at the end of 2026, he’s also been married to wife Charlotte Gregg since 2012 and become a father.
Wes is also a gardener and admitted to his Instagram followers that “it’s been healing and a special touch of paradise.”
Season seven: Stan Walker
In its final season in 2009 before the show was put on hiatus, Stan beat Hayley Warner but his reality TV experience was more of a struggle than many realised.
In his 2020 memoir Impossible: My Story, Stan spoke about the physical and sexual abuse he endured in his life, his cancer battle and identity struggles.
However his love for music has never waned and he’s released seven albums and even supported Nicki Minaj and his idol Beyonce on tour.
He’s also honoured his Maori heritage on multiple occasions; his sixth studio album Te Arohanui was his first in te reo Māori.
Season eight: Royston Noell
In 2023 it was a whole new reboot and First Nations singer Royston beat runner-up Hayley Warner.
Between performances at Mighty Hoopla and the AFL, Royston has also released new music and spoken openly about being part of the LGBTQIA+ community.
“I just know baby Roy would be so proud of how far I’ve come,” he said after appearing in the 2026 Mardi Gras parade.

Season nine: Dylan Wright
After winning in 2024, dad-of-two Dylan took a break from music to enjoy some family time.
But the season nine winner is back making music and will be performing his country hits on tour around Australia in May 2026.
“I haven’t released a song in 8 months and my goodness it feels good to have new music out again,” he shared in February. “I wrote this song just over 2 years ago while having old Clint Eastwood western movies play in the background, absolutely nothing to do with the song but inspiration flowed.”
Season ten: Marshall Hamburger
Australian Idol’s most recent winner may only be in his early twenties but his career is taking off.
“Music isn’t such a low-key thing for me anymore,” he admitted, adding that he’s working on projects “out loud” rather than quietly like he used to and that he’s been approached on the street by fans while out with his girlfriend.
His song Real Good was released at the end of this year and will perform in his home state of Queensland later in March 2026.
He’s also an ambassador for Bully Zero and is working on more songwriting.
