We know we’re not supposed to have favourites, but the magical love story of Brooke Blurton and Darvid Garayeli was one of our highlights from the 2021 reality TV scene. Which made it all the more difficult when they announced their sudden split at the beginning of 2022.
After meeting on The Bachelorette Australia – where Brooke made history as the first bisexual and Indigenous Bachelorette in the show’s history – the duo cemented their place as fan-favourites from the franchise.
But for any fans wondering “are Brooke and Darvid still together?” the answer is, unfortunately, no.
The couple seemed to have taken their relationship from strength to strength after the show, enjoying life together in Melbourne and celebrating with each other on New Year’s Eve. But, on January 2, Darvid confirmed their break-up in a post that clearly caught Brooke off-guard.
“Starting the new year off with an end to a chapter and hopefully the beginning of another,” Darvid wrote on his Instagram. “Unfortunately Brooke and I have parted ways. While we genuinely thought we were each others person, things change and that’s okay.
“Please respect our privacy and that at the end of the day we are both just people with feelings.”
Brooke told fans she was “just as surprised” as them by the announcement, reminiscent of when Sam Frost told fans “trust me, I’m just as in the dark as you all are” after her split from Blake Garvey was announced.
“I just want to say right now I’m finding this really quite overwhelming and just as surprising to me as you guys,” Brooke wrote in her own Instagram story.
“I just woke up to the news. It was definitely agreed to part ways. I just wanted to do it privately amicably and respectfully. This is not how and what I expected to be doing right now so as you can imagine, this is all a lot.
“You will all have your judgements and have your say but there is a lot going on in my world and D’s of course. So I again just ask you to be kind, we are human.”
Then, on January 4, Darvid doubled-down with a cryptic post about “putting on a brave face” as he moves on from their split, with fans wondering whether or not he was the one to initiate the break-up.
“Back home with my loved ones… and my washing. Thanks for all the supportive messages, putting on a brave face,” he wrote on Instagram.
The 27-year-old even had the support of The Bachelorette Australia runner-up Jamie-Lee Dayz.
“You’ve got this,” she commented on his post.
“HUGE LOVE MY BRO. You’re one of the kindest souls I know, stay strong! About time for that old fashioned right?” wrote another Bachie co-star Luca Fraraccio.
“Sending love Darv. You’re such a good human,” added co-star Carissa Croft.
Meanwhile, Brooke has not posted about the split since sharing her statement of shock.
Brooke and Darvid’s Bachelorette Love Story
Their romance all began on the red carpet at the Bachie Mansion, when landscaper Darvid made quite the impression on Brooke by arriving on a ride-on lawnmower. Literally, he scored the white “first impression” rose and therefore the first date.
With their first date mimicking that of Tim Robards and Anna Heinrich in 2013, Darvid was a clear front-runner from the beginning. And the rest, as they say, was history.
“I feel like we’re going to have a beautiful life together. Darvid has restored my faith. Loving someone so unconditionally and knowing they love you back… he is the most beautiful man I’ve ever met,” Brooke said in heartwarming scenes during the final episode of The Bachelorette Australia.
“I can’t believe I found my person,” Darvid wrote on Instagram after the finale aired. “When I entered this experience I can honestly say I had no idea what to expect, I’ve come out of this with my life partner and she’s so much more than I could have ever envisioned.”
Life after The Bachelorette Australia
Since the show finished filming, Brooke and Darvid spent several months keeping their romance under wraps until the finale aired. Once the last episode was out of the way, they were free to be a couple out in the real world.
“It was like an end to a chapter that we feel so very proud of,” Brooke told our sister-site, Now To Love, of their on-screen journey coming to an end.
“I just wanted to say ‘I love you’ and scream it. We were both messes, but it was fantastic. I wholeheartedly, truly, love Darvid.”
A couple of week’s later, and their first social media posts revealed they were enjoying doing “regular” things like hikes in nature, home-made breakfasts, trips to Bunnings and afternoon wines in the sunshine.
They also enjoyed a series of firsts, including their first dinner date in a real restaurant and their first wedding as a couple.
Attending the nuptials of AFLW player and SAS: Australia star Sabrina Frederick, Brooke was a bridesmaid while Darvid was clearly smitten.
“I can’t wait to marry you!” Darvid wrote in an Instagram post from the day.
Darvid also made the much-discussed move down to Melbourne, where he “couldn’t wait” to begin living with Brooke.
And while Brooke is dog-mum to a beautiful cavoodle named Cobar, Darvid is a dog-dad to his own perfect pooch, with the couple bringing their pups together under the one roof.
Just one month after the finale aired, Darvid shared a sweet tribute to Brooke and their cosy home-life in Melbourne – including a shout-out to Brooke and Cobar.
“Missing these two today,” he wrote in his caption, sharing mirror selfies with both.
A few days later on December 31, Brooke would hint at tying the knot as she visited Oglia Loro Couture. Fans will know that the Bachelorette wore gowns and dresses from the Melbourne label throughout the season.
Visiting with her stylist, Paul Versace, Brooke revealed she was picking up some pieces for her birthday on January 1. While there, she snapped a rack of gorgeous wedding gowns, tagging Darvid and writing: “What do you say?”
And while it’s clear it was just a joke, the pair also seemed to be totally comfortable discussing marriage and their future just a few months after meeting on the show. But social media isn’t always as “real” as it seems, and the pair would announce their break-up just two days later.
On January 2, Darvid confirmed they had split – with Brooke seeming to be blindsided by the news being shared with fans.
It appears he may have jumped the gun a little in taking their split public, with Brooke wanting to wait until the dust had settled.
It’s unknown at this stage what caused such a sudden break-up, but we’re thinking of these two as they part ways just a little over one month after the season finale aired.
