After nearly two years of her Caesars Palace residency in Las Vegas, Adele has officially commenced her break from the music industry.

The Grammy Award-winning English singer, who concluded her run on November 24, 2024, gave a tearful goodbye to fans, while also sharing a humourous reflection on the last 24 months.

“I chose to do a residency mainly because I f***ing hate touring,” she joked, adding, “But I chose to do a residency so I could keep [her son Angelo’s] life normal, and I did do that.”

“It’s been wonderful, and I will miss it terribly. I don’t know when I’ll next want to perform again. I’m not doing anything else, and I’m actually s***ting myself about what I’m going to do… I just don’t know when I’ll next want to go on stage, but I’ll miss you,” she continued.

The conclusion of the singer’s residency comes just two months after the 36-year-old revealed during her September concert series in Munich, Germany, that she should be taking an indefinite break from the music industry.

“Every single show has been wonderful… but I truly have no idea when I will ever do anything like this again. It’s going to be a very f***ing long time and I’ll probably be halfway through my life by then,” she told the crowd.

“I will not see you for an incredibly long time and I will hold you dear in my heart for the whole next of my break… I’ve spent the last seven years building a new life for myself, and I want to live it now. I want to live the new life that I’ve been building.”

Prior to sharing the news with her fans, Adele told German broadcaster ZDF, “I don’t have any plans for new music, at all. I want a big break after this, and I think I want to do other creative things just for a little while.”

What those “other creative things” will be isn’t exactly clear yet, but the singer did leave her fans with a parting gift – launching a new card game called ‘Love is a Game’ immediately following the conclusion of her residency.

The game, which is marketed as “a conversation-driven game created to explore fun and revealing conversations, laughter, and unforgettable moments,” was created by Adele and her friend Jedidiah Jenkins on “one drunken evening,” with the cards each being split into five categories named after some of her most emotional hits.

While fans may still be yearning for the next chapter in her series of life-defining albums, Adele revealed to fans in January 2024 that they may have an extended wait for her newest material, telling the crowd, “I just don’t think I’m gonna write an album for quite some time.”

Late last year, she told The Hollywood Reporter that she had ‘’nothing to say yet’’ and “hadn’t even thought about” new music since the release of 30 in 2021.

“I have to wait for a feeling. If I get antsy, that’s when I know I have to go to the studio, and I am the opposite of antsy right now.”

After performing two shows every week since November 2022, it is understandable that the Grammy Award-winning performer is taking a step back from the spotlight.

Whilst her career is unmatched by few contemporary female artists – sellout tours, number one albums, every music award under the sun – the pace has been relentless since she rose to fame way back in 2008, when she released her debut album 19.

It was her next album, 21, that really broke her into the mainstream, with songs like Rolling In The Deep and Rumour Has It making her the powerhouse voice of her generation alongside Amy Winehouse.

But lest anyone think her long Las Vegas residency has caused a major burnout, Adele assured fans on social media that it wasn’t the case.

“This residency, these shows have changed my life,” she wrote on Instagram. “I desperately needed to fall back in love with performing live again, and I have. I needed to reconnect with my songs and remember what they mean to me, and I have.”

It’s believed Adele will return to her home base of the UK after her Las Vegas residency wraps up, with sources telling The Sun, “Adele is a Brit through and through and London will always be her home. It’s all part of a wider return home and once her Las Vegas shows finish in November she has said she will be coming back. [Long-time assistant] Rose Moon has already moved back to the UK and Adele will be following her.”

While the singer has not shared any further information on her post-show plans, she did reveal that she and partner Rich Paul were in the process of planning their wedding, telling her Munich crowd on September 1 that she was “about to get married.”

During her final residency show, Adele gave Rich a rare shoutout, thanking her fiance for “always bigging me up and making me feel like I could do whatever I want to do.”

“There have been times where I’m too tired or too emotionally drained, and you’re like, ‘Come, baby. Get up there. Let’s do it.’ I appreciate that, and I still need to be treated like a baby panda,” she joked.
