After first crossing paths with her future co-star Will Arnett in the late 1990s, their on-screen chemistry continued to blossom away from the cameras, with the comedy couple tying the knot in August 2003.

The 53-year-old seemingly made her new romance red carpet official at the 2025 Academy Awards, with Joel posing alongside Amy ahead of the ceremony.
While little is known about the exact timeline of their relationship, a source speaking to People in October 2024 claimed that the couple have been in a relationship since mid 2024, adding that Amy and Joel are “enjoying spending time together.”
The happy couple also looked cosier than ever at the 2026 Golden Globes, where Amy won the inaugural award for best podcast for Good Hang.
Who is Joel Lovell?
Joel is a Cornell University graduate who has worked for Harper’s Bazaar, the New York Times Magazine and GQ.
He later became deputy editor of the New York Times Magazine but left the publication to start working in podcasting and is now the executive editor at Pineapple Street Studios.
Why did Will Arnett and Amy Poehler break up?
While the pair have not spoken extensively about the nature of their split, Amy shared her candid reflection on her divorce in her 2014 memoir, Yes, Please.
“I don’t want to talk about my divorce because it is too sad and too personal. I also don’t like people knowing my s***,” she wrote, continuing to address media speculation surrounding the former couple’s relationship.
“I am proud of how my ex-husband, Will, and I have been taking care of our children; I am beyond grateful he is their father and I don’t think a [nearly] ten-year marriage constitutes failure. That being said, getting a divorce really sucks.”
In February 2022, Will made a rare comment on the couple’s split during an interview with The Guardian, revealing, “I was driving to the set one day and I pulled over to the side of the road and cried for an hour.”
“People talk about you like they know you and they talk about your relationship as if they know what’s going on, so imagine how weird that is. It’s brutal with any relationship, and we have kids… This is a breakup. This is a family. This isn’t some game.'”
