We From Blades of Glory to Parks and Recreation, Amy Poehler has long been a fan favourite star in some of film’s most beloved comedies.
After first crossing paths with her future co-star Will Arnett in the late 1990s, their on-screen chemistry continued to blossom away from the cameras, with the comedy couple tying the knot in August 2003.
Welcoming two children throughout their nine years of marriage, Poehler and Arnett’s romance quickly gained a loyal following amongst comedy fans. Sadly for fans of the pair, the former couple announced their split in September 2012.
Since parting ways with Arnett, many fans of Mean Girls’ OG ‘Cool Mum’ have kept an equally close eye on her life away from the spotlight and after weeks of speculation, it appears that Poehler may have embarked on a new romance.
Who is Amy Poehler dating?
Amy Poehler has recently been linked to former New York Times editor Joel Lovell.
Although she has yet to comment publicly on the rumours, a source speaking exclusively to People claimed that the 53-year-old has been in a relationship with Lovell since mid-2024, with the publication reporting that the pair are “enjoying spending time together.”
While little is known about their rumoured romance, fans have uncovered that since departing from his position at the New York Times, Lovell has transitioned from long-form written content to the world of podcasting – working at London’s iconic Pineapple Dance Studios as executive editor of their various podcast series.
Why did Will Arnett and Amy Poehler break up?
While the pair have not spoken extensively about the nature of their split, Poehler shared her candid reflection on her divorce in her 2014 memoir, Yes, Please.
“I don’t want to talk about my divorce because it is too sad and too personal. I also don’t like people knowing my s***,” she wrote, continuing to address media speculation surrounding the former couple’s relationship.
“I am proud of how my ex-husband, Will, and I have been taking care of our children; I am beyond grateful he is their father and I don’t think a [nearly] ten-year marriage constitutes failure. That being said, getting a divorce really sucks.”
In February 2022, Arnett made a rare comment on the couple’s split during an interview with The Guardian, revealing, “I was driving to the set one day and I pulled over to the side of the road and cried for an hour.”
“People talk about you like they know you and they talk about your relationship as if they know what’s going on, so imagine how weird that is. It’s brutal with any relationship, and we have kids… This is a breakup. This is a family. This isn’t some game.'”
