Matildas captain Sam Kerr and her fiancée Kristie Mewis have announced that they have welcomed their first child!
Sharing the exciting news on Instagram, Sam shared a snap alongside Kristie and their newborn son, captioning the announcement, “Our little man is here. Jagger Mewis-Kerr.”
Following the announcements, friends, fans, and fellow teammates of the sporting couple took to the comments to share their congratulations.
“Congrats you guys. Welcome to the fam Jagger,” wrote teammate Katrina Gorry.
“Welcome to the Tillies fam, Jagger! Congratulations to mums Sam and Kristie on the arrival of their beautiful baby boy!” the official Matildas page added.
News of baby Jagger’s arrival comes just over six months after Sam and Kristie confirmed they were expecting their first child together.
“Mewis-Kerr baby coming 2025!” they captioned the announcement.
Announcing their engagement in September 2023, Sam and Kristie have been together since early 2021, with the couple first crossing paths on the pitch during a US Women’s National Soccer League tournament.
After months of speculation surrounding their romance, the couple confirmed their relationship on Instagram shortly after the Tokyo Olympic Games.
Speaking on their decision to go public as a couple, Kristie told Gaffer, “I think it’s endearing to share your life with other people because I think if they can relate to you and you can maybe change their lives, I think it’s important, especially with our platform, to share.”
“We didn’t share it for ages, then it just got too hard to hide it… We’re not private people. I like sharing my story. I like sharing who I am outside of football. Football is 5% of my life,” Sam continued.
