South African pop princess Tyla made her debut on the Met Gala carpet this year and it’s safe to say she has made quite the impression!
The 22-year-old wore a full body-cast gown by Balmain and it was one of our favourite looks of the night.
Tyla’s look was inspired by the sands of time with a dress quite literally made of sand. The creative director of Balmain, Olivier Rousteing, told Vogue that the inspiration behind the dress “stemmed from a desire to redefine boundaries and transform a transient material into an everlasting masterpiece.”
“The idea of sculpting a garment from something as ephemeral as sand ignited my imagination and I could not be happier with the end result,” he said.
Her look was paired with a simple gold necklace and a clear hourglass-shaped clutch filled with sand to match.
The Grammy-winning artist also made a major beauty statement as she walked the carpet with a sleek, layered bob instead of her signature bouncy curls.

She has always wanted to perform, sing, and dance and has been determined to fulfill that dream from a young age. At just 19 years old, Tyla signed to Epic Records following the success of her 2019 debut single Getting Late, and the rest is history!
Tyla is gaining a larger audience by the day, currently amassing over five million followers on Instagram and eight million on TikTok.
“I am starting to feel the pressure of social media now because the numbers are rising much faster and I just understand the influence that I have now,” she told PEOPLE in November 2023. “I have to be more careful and use my platform right.”
Does Tyla have a boyfriend?
Tyla likes to keep her life as private as possible, including her relationships, however, some fans believe she may dating rapper Geo after the pair went on a series of dates in Japan for her Breath Me music video.
At this stage, the singer has neither confirmed nor denied the relationship.
