In case you are yet to binge-watch the 10-episode dark comedy, let me give you a little run down on the first season. Basically, the series follows protagonist Jen (Christina Applegate), a grieving widow who lost her husband in a hit-and-run car accident. After meeting Judy (Linda Cardellini)— the woman responsible for her Jen’s husband’s death along with her ex-partner Steve (James Marsden)— at a grief counselling support group the pair form an unlikely friendship that not only ends in disaster but the death of someone close to them.

Once again, series creator Liz Feldman (2 Broke Girls, One Big Happy) will serve as the showrunner and executive producer on season two alongside Applegate and Will Ferrell. Following that huge season finale cliffhanger, Feldman says the second season picks up where the last left off.

“It will be about the further exploration of this friendship, and relationship, and now very complicated dynamic, or even more complicated dynamic between these two women,”  Feldman says for what she has in mind for Jen and Judy in season two.

“This show will always be a show that explores the dark sides and the light sides of grief, loss, forgiveness and friendship. So suffice to say, there will be more darkness.”

Speaking of darkness, Applegate admitted in a recent interview with Variety that filming the series was so harrowing, she sought counselling after filming wrapped.

“Jen, my character, is grieving in the worst way possible, but that’s her way,” she said. “And I think that we should all be allowed to do that when we need to. Grief doesn’t have a timeline. And grief is messy.”

“It tapped into some stuff that I had to face. It was cathartic. I don’t know if [it was] therapeutic. Did I start therapy after I shot the show? Yes, absolutely,” she continued. “To like finally talk about the stuff that hurt you in your life — and heal from that? I think it’s really beautiful thing.”

While they’re yet to announce a release date, it’s been reported that season two of Dead To Me will drop on the streaming site in 2020.
