The end of Farmer Wants A Wife is in sight, and we’re days away from finding out who Farmer Dylan and Farmer Jarrad choose to be by their side.

While viewers have been as invested as ever in the farmers’ decisions (having a lot to say about the confirmed couples so far), one constant complaint this season has been about how much drama there has been, with fans accusing the show of being “tacky”, “scripted”, and even comparing it to Married at First Sight.

Farmer Wants A Wife is going down the toilet,” one viewer wrote on social media, while another said there was “far too much fighting and drama”.

“I agree 100 per cent. It’s dropped the ball, it’s just like MAFS!” a third said.

WHO spoke to Yvonne — one of Jarrad’s final two — about the fan backlash this season to get to the bottom of whether it was manufactured or not, and how it felt to experience it from the inside.

Yvonne confirms production were more involved than expected

While we can’t be too surprised that the production of a TV show has input on what goes on (it’s literally their job), Yvonne explained there was more involvement from producers than she expected for Farmer Wants A Wife.

“I think whilst on the farm, I didn’t expect there to be such an influence from production,” she said.

Although she noted she enjoyed the experience as a whole, Yvonne confessed that some aspects left her feeling a bit disillusioned.

“The amount of drama- I was like, ‘Oh, this isn’t the Farmer Wants A Wife I remember'”, she said. “And watching it back now, we were filming five days a week, and there’s not much [of that] being shown. So that was a little bit disappointing.”

The show is the most successful dating reality TV series in Australia and was once hailed for being wholesome and firmly centred on helping the contestants find love.

However, the tone has shifted over the last couple of years, with Yvonne herself the victim of a sneaky edit that made one moment look like another.

She explained she walked away from the black tie dinner when she felt Jarrad wasn’t being open and honest with her like she’d ask, not when he admitted to kissing Brodie more than her — with the final edit suggesting the latter.

One of Zac’s girls, Miranda, also received backlash this season, accused of unnecessarily trying to create drama with other girls.

The pleasant ‘takeaway’ Yvonne didn’t expect from the show

Thankfully, there were some pleasant surprises for Yvonne while filming the show.

She explained that she created some really strong friendships with the other women, and is still in touch with some now.

“I didn’t realise I’d make friends with all the girls, which is a nice takeaway from it,” she said.
