Farmer Zac and Maya were the only couple still together after the Farmer Wants A Wife 2026 reunion, making their relationship this season’s biggest success story.
But almost two months after the reunion aired, the pair have revealed they have gone their separate ways.
The apple farmer and Melbourne medical receptionist confirmed the news in a joint statement on Instagram, where they reflected on their relationship and revealed why they ultimately decided to call it quits.
During the reunion, Zac had already admitted that long distance was the biggest challenge they faced, with Maya based in Melbourne while he remained on his farm in South Australia’s Adelaide Hills.

“From the beginning, our connection was strong. We then became each other’s best friends, which led us into an amazing relationship,” they wrote.
But despite their strong connection, the pair admitted that maintaining their relationship from opposite sides of the country wasn’t easy.
“Navigating our relationship while being long-distance proved to be no easy journey,” they explained.
The pair said the timing also wasn’t right to take the next step in their relationship, ultimately leading them to make the decision to go their separate ways.
“The timing for us to make that next move wasn’t right, and unfortunately, this shifted the relationship,” they said. “We have therefore decided to go our separate ways.”
Despite their split, Zac and Maya were keen to stress that there is no bad blood between them.
“We still have an immense amount of love and respect for each other, and definitely zero bad blood,” they said.
The former couple added that they would always “cherish the memories and experiences” they shared together.
Zac and Maya were the last couple standing
Zac agonised over which woman to send home throughout the season, but by the end, his heart was firmly set on Maya. The now 25-year-old apple farmer had been open about wanting to find his forever person and pushed back against fan complaints about him looking for a serious relationship at a young age.
Speaking to WHO during the season, Zac admitted he could see a future with Maya, who worked as a medical receptionist in Melbourne.
The pair quickly became one of the season’s most loved couples, with their constant joking and obvious chemistry making them difficult to miss whenever they were together. And when the reunion rolled around, Zac and Maya had some very good news for fans. They were still together.
At the time, it seemed like the pair had managed to make their relationship work despite living hundreds of kilometres apart. But behind the scenes, long distance was already proving to be one of their biggest challenges.
Long distance was already a challenge
After Zac’s final decision aired, Maya shared a sweet photo of the couple on Instagram.
“The dress is giving ‘How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days’ but the heart doesn’t want to lose this guy in 10 days,” she wrote.
But while their relationship was going strong, they had to navigate life in different states, with Maya living and working in Melbourne while Zac remained on his apple orchard in the Adelaide Hills.
“Long-distance is definitely not easy,” Maya previously told New Idea while visiting Zac. “We see each other really as much as we can because we’ve both got very busy lives, but we FaceTime every day pretty much and talk almost every day.”
The pair were also making plans for their future, with Maya revealing they had hoped to eventually move in together. They had even spoken about marriage, although neither was putting pressure on the other.
Maya had jokingly sent Zac inspiration photos of engagement rings, while the couple had already become part of each other’s family lives. They attended Zac’s twin sister’s wedding together, while Zac also spent Christmas with Maya’s extended family.
At the time, everything seemed to be pointing towards the couple building a life together.

At the reunion, the pair confirmed they were still together.
Since the episode aired, New Idea published some adorable exclusive photos of the couple, hinting at an engagement on the horizon.
From pictures of them hugging and smiling to a cheeky shot of Zac down on one knee, the pair are definitely not hiding the seriousness of their relationship.

From Zac’s sister Issy posting a now-deleted TikTok of her and Maya to Mieke (one of Zac’s other girls) admitting to WHO that Zac picked the right lady, all signs are pointing to wedding bells, and we couldn’t be more excited for the couple.
Zac and Maya also sparked pregnancy rumours
Their relationship later found itself at the centre of another round of speculation when the pair appeared to hint at a pregnancy announcement.
Zac shared a photo of Maya with the caption, “And that kids, is how I met your mother”, before adding “19 week todays” alongside a pregnancy emoji. Fans immediately began wondering if the couple had a major announcement to make. But Maya later set the record straight, revealing the post was actually an inside joke that had gone a little too far.
“Look we are a little silly. We have an inside joke about it however, in retrospect wasn’t a fabulous idea to post about it!!” she told WHO.
Maya also confirmed that having children was something the couple had discussed for the future, but said it wasn’t happening at that point.
“Having children are on our cards [but] definitely not at this given stage,” she said.
At the time, Zac and Maya appeared to be one of the strongest success stories to come out of the 2026 season.
Now, their relationship has taken a different turn. While their Farmer Wants A Wife love story may not have ended the way fans expected, the pair have made it clear they still have plenty of love and respect for each other as they move forward separately.
