HBO Max has officially released the first official teaser for the eight-episode first season of their upcoming Harry Potter series. As each season will follow one of the books in the series, this first season will be titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

What is the first season of the Harry Potter series about?

The official logline for the show reads: “There is nothing special about Harry Potter – at least that’s what his Aunt Petunia always says.

“On his 11th birthday, a letter of admittance to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry opens up a hidden world for Harry: one of fun, friendship and magic.

“But with this new adventure comes great risk as Harry is forced to face a dangerous enemy from his past.”

Those who have read the books and seen the movies will know the story all too well, but for younger audiences, it could provide a nice entry into the Harry Potter universe.

Is there a Harry Potter trailer?

Yes! The teaser trailer is finally out. Watch it here:

In the teaser, we see Harry living with his Aunt Petunia (his mother Lily’s sister), his Uncle Vernon and cousin Dudley.

Harry is bullied both at home and at school and told that there’s nothing special about him, until he, of course, starts receiving letters addressed to “the cupboard under the stairs”.

Next, we see him with Hagrid, who tells him that his “parents were the kindest, bravest people”.

Soon enough, he’s meeting Ron and Hermione and they’re at Hogwarts together and this is where the magic happens (sorry).

What is the fan reaction like?

Fans are very excited to see more detail than they did in the movies, thanks to the longer format.

“This is for the book fans,” one person wrote on YouTube.

“Anybody else feel like they just stepped into a surreal alternate reality?” another asked. “Like all the details are there and it looks good. But my brain isn’t comprehending.”

“I really like how they are focusing even more on Harry’s backstory with the Dursleys,” wrote a third.

Someone else added, “I cried. I just can’t believe I cried. And it wasn’t out of nostalgia, the trailer was just really emotional.”

Others weren’t so excited, with one person writing, “Without the original iconic theme music, it just feels like a parody.”

“The original iconic trio can’t be replaced,” wrote another.

Others shared that they were scared to get excited “in case they mess it up badly”.

Is J.K. Rowling involved?

Yes, the show is, of course, based on the beloved books written by J.K. Rowling, and she is also an executive producer on the series.

The author has been copping major backlash on social media and from the original Harry Potter stars in recent years due to her controversial comments about transgender people.

When will the Harry Potter series come out?

The series will come out this Christmas, which feels perfect, given so many people watch the films at that time of the year.

Who’s in the Harry Potter series?

The series stars Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.

Warwick Davis is the only returning actor that we know of. He will reprise his role as Filius Flitwick. In the original films, he also played Griphook the goblin and a Gringotts bank teller.
