Luke Jacobsz, 37, was born Luke Ashwood (Jacob is his middle name and he added the ‘z’ for showbiz) and at 17 he gave up a plumbing apprenticeship and kicked off his acting career with a two-year run on Heartbreak High.
He moved onto McLeod’s Daughters from 2005 to 2009. In 2008, he parlayed a recurring role on Home and Away into a series regular stint, eventually scoring Logie nomination for most popular actor in 2010 which the keen cook has called one of his “proudest moments… I was shocked to be honest and was really happy.”
Playing himself, he’s also been a hit. In 2008 he took out the disco ball trophy on Dancing with the Stars — and dated his partner Luda Kroitor for a short time — and has become a go-to TV host. He presented The Big Arvo from 2001 to 2005, helmed Popstars Live in 2004 and was the host of The X Factor Australia for after taking over from Matthew Newton. Whose career does he covet? “I think Hugh Jackman is an absolute legend,” he said in a 2015 interview. “He can act sing dance and he is commonly known as being really down to earth.”
