2020 just keeps getting more insane, with Kanye West declaring he intends to put his hand up to be the next US President. But what does his wife Kim Kardashian West make of all this?
Kanye announced his bid for presidency via Twitter, writing: “We must now realise the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States! #2020VISION.”
His wife Kim responded simply by re-tweeting him, along with an American flag emoji, but according to Us Weekly, the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star is “supportive” of his goals.
“Kanye has been planning this for years and Kim has known about his aspirations and has been supportive,” an insider told the publication this month.
“Kanye is passionate about arts and education and wants to support in any way he can.”
When it comes to Kanye’s policies though, it seems there are some big disparities between the couple.
Speaking to Forbes, the rapper labelled vaccines “the mark of the beast” and said that “Planned Parenthoods have been placed inside cities by white supremacists to do the Devil’s work” adding that he’s pro-life because because he’s “following the word of the Bible.”
Kim however is pro-vaccine and has publicly advocated for Planned Parenthood in the past. She even used her platform on Keeping Up with the Kardashians to express her support for both issues.
This may not be an issue though, as Kim opened up about overcoming disagreements within her marriage to Kanye in a 2019 profile for The Cut.
“It’s okay to not understand each other. It’s okay to not have the same exact feelings all the time,” she said.
“It’s just about figuring out how do we grow from that? Or what’s the lesson from that? And giving each other space and time to figure that out.”
In 2016, a year after Kanye first announced that he would be running for president, Kim revealed to Wonderland that she’d warned her husband of the potential consequences to follow.
“Look at all the awful things they’re doing to Melania [Trump], putting up the naked photos,” she told the publication.
“I’ll say to Kanye: ‘Babe, you know the kind of photos they’d put up of me!’”
The reality star added that though she didn’t want to “put words in his mouth” she was “pretty sure [he’d run as a] Democrat” or perhaps an independent.
“I don’t know how serious he is about it. We’ll see.”
Kim herself has become a key spokesperson in the US movement for criminal justice reform in recent years and has successfully lobbied President Trump to release several prisoners.
But before you start envisioning Kimye as President and First Lady, there’s a good chance that it’s not going to happen – at least not during the upcoming 2020 election.
The BBC noted that Kanye does not appear to have registered his name with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) for November’s election.
“The closest name the FEC database shows is a candidate called ‘Kanye Deez Nutz West’, who filed their papers with the Green Party in 2015 under the address ‘1977 Golddigger Avenue, Suite Yeezus’ and appears to have raised no money,” the report said.
