In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, producers Michael Berk and Douglas Schwartz revealed that Leonardo DiCaprio nearly played David Hasselhoff’s son.

DiCaprio, who was only 15-years-old at the time, didn’t get the role because “David thought he was too old to play his son” said Berk.

Schwartz said “David thought it would make him look older”. Hasselhoff wanted a younger actor to play his son.

The position of Mitch Buchannon’s son eventually went to actor Brandon Call for season one, and then to Jeremy Jackson.

DiCaprio wasn’t the only star that Hasselhoff didn’t approve. David also tried to discourage the producers from casting Pamela Anderson who joined the show in season two.

Schwartz said, “She had these enormous breasts and David thought he would be upstaged by everyone looking at her breasts. Which is what happened”.

Pamela’s casting turned out to be a blessing for the show. The 90’s show’s ratings dramatically increased after Anderson’s 1995 sex tape with Tommy Lee surfaced.

On the matter of the sex tape, Berk said, “We had to figure out how to deal with it. So we just kept going.” Schwartz added, “The ratings doubled. That was a big thing for Baywatch.”

The 2017 big-screen Baywatch reboot will star Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron, Alexandra Daddario and Priyanka Chopra. The TV-show stars Hasselhoff and Anderson will reportedly make cameo appearances.
