Ever wanted to apply for MAFS? The casting process is pretty intense

From your family life to any "skeletons in the closet".

MAFS is arguably the country’s biggest reality show, but have you ever dreamed of finding your partner on national television?

Turns out the casting application isn’t a simple online questionnaire. Strap yourself in and find out what the contestants have to go through before enduring any drama on the show.

The MAFS casting application form

Whilst the application process starts with basic information (we’re talking name, where you live, job), things get personal quickly.

As per The Tab, these include things like explaining your living situation, your hobbies and how you’d describe yourself.

But that’s not all.

The questions even include ones such as ‘Would you describe yourself as lonely?’ and ‘Have you ever cheated?’

You’re even asked to disclose how much you weigh, if you’ve had plastic surgery and if there are any “skeletons in your closet”. Spooky…

You’re also asked to “please be honest with your answers and complete the form to the best of your ability.” Guess some contestants missed that bit when the news of their secret girlfriend came out.

The added visuals

Of course, they can’t just go off your application form.

You’re also required to submit one full-body photo, one close-up photo and a one-minute video where you “describe yourself and your motivation for being on the show.”

We bet the producers have seen some quirky videos over the years!

Former bride shares surprising details

Speaking to ELLE Australia, 2023 bride Tahnee Cook, who was 27 at the time, said that she filled out her application on a Friday night, and that a producer called the following Monday.

“The whole process for me took around three months, from applying to my wedding day. During this time I met with different producers (online and in person), filled out multiple questionnaires and had psychological evaluations,” she said.

Tahnee explained how the second stage of the application process was an extensive questionnaire broken into three sections: your future partner, about you and the show.

While some of her questions asked about her ideal looks and qualities in a partner, others made her think.

“Some of the more interesting questions asked are ‘Do you have any ex partners that you still have feelings for?’, ‘Is there anything about your life or past that you are embarrassed or ashamed about?’, and ‘Have you ever dated anyone famous? If so, what was their name and for how long?’

Get the men involved

Back in 2020, expert John Aiken revealed to The Brisbane Times that 80 per cent of the applications were from women and that men “are the hard ones to get”.

Other [MAFS] production teams [across the world] say the same thing. When you’re on this show for 10 weeks for this experiment, basically you’re going to be exposed, you’re going to have everything essentially come out, you’re not able to wear a mask. And so maybe that scares the guys off a bit more.”
