It was the beautiful family reunion that had Masterchef Australia fans in a puddle of tears.
On last night’s episode of Network 10’s popular cooking series, fan-favourite contestant Anushka— whose incredible Indian dishes have received rave reviews from judges Matt Preston, George Calombaris and Gary Mehigan— was reunited with her family for the first time in months.
“I don’t know what happened to me, I nearly dropped the plates!” Anushka told 10 Daily of the moment she finally wrapped her arms around her husband. “Until this day, I have no idea what happened to those plates, I’m really wondering I’m going to have to really watch carefully. “What happened to the plates in my hands! Did I put them down?”

It had been some time since the talented Australian cook had seen her husband, son and daughter, and even admitted to trying to “block them off” so she’d be able to make it through the competition without constantly missing them.
“I think it was instinctive, it wasn’t pre-planned,” Anushka told 10 Daily of her protection plan. “I don’t give them that much information. I don’t talk to them about what is going on with me emotionally, my struggles in the competition.”
After her insane cook— which she describes as the “best moment in Masterchef”— Anushka was given the chance to sit and eat with her family before heading back to the Sydney mansion where her Masterchef competitors live.
“We spent probably another 15-20 minutes with them but the desire to pack up, get into the car and go with them was really, really strong,” the beloved home cook admitted.
