It’s the one word you don’t want to be called when attending the Met Gala, but Sutton Foster and Hugh Jackman have just copped “boring” accusations after rocking up at fashion’s night of nights. The pair, who have been dating since last year, appeared together on the star-studded carpet wearing a black suit and a champagne-green coloured dress.
While others have been wearing headpieces likened to fencing masks (hi, Katy Perry) and even donned additional limbs (Blackpink’s Lalisa Manobal… we see you), the loved-up pair would have easily fitted right in at the Oscars or the Golden Globes — two Hollywood events where attendees are known to play it safe.
With the Met Gala theme this year being ‘Costume Art’, some fans have been left disappointed by their fashion choices.
“I cannot tell what the theme is supposed to be based on either of their looks,” a fan said online.
“A black suit? Ground breaking,” another said, quoting a famous line from The Devil Wears Prada, while many others rather brazenly called their looks “boring”.

A deep dive into Sutton Foster and Hugh Jackman’s Met Gala looks
Sutton’s one-shoulder dress included a tie design, asymmetric waist and thigh-high slit.
She paired the Monse dress with diamond jewellery by Fred Leighton, while Hugh wore an Armani suit.
While they both undeniably looked beautiful, the main gripe with their outfits was that they played it safe — and if there’s one night not to do this, it’s Met Gala night.
I guess being loved up and happy is boring?
We can’t blame them for it.
Sutton Foster and Hugh Jackman’s relationship
Foster is a two-time Tony Award winner, and her background mirrors Jackman’s in that she started out in theatre and has a passion for the stage.
She has a 30-year career spanning theatre, film and TV and is known for her work on Broadway.
She won her first Tony Award in 2022 for her portrayal of Millie Dillmount in Thoroughly Modern Millie. In 2011, she won another for her role as Reno Sweeney in Anything Goes.
In a resurfaced interview from their time co-starring in The Music Man, Jackman heaped praise on Foster saying she was “just a dream” to work with.
She also spoke highly of Jackman in a 2022 interview with Vogue.
“He has an impeccable reputation of being the hardest working man, incredibly kind, and generous – and all of that is true,” she said.
“He disarms everyone, and he doesn’t make anything about him. And he’s now become one of my best friends, which was a surprise, because you usually go into these things thinking, ‘Well, I hope we get along.’”
“But we just spent Memorial Day with our families. It’s really fun to meet new friends after 40.”
