Their 10-year romance was a modern love story for the ages and whilst Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth are no longer together, the 28-year-old singer has confessed she will always love her Aussie ex-husband.

Speaking on the Howard Stern Show to discuss her new album Plastic Hearts, Miley confirmed that her song WTF Do I Know is about her ex Liam, who she started dating when she was 16, adding that her lyric “And I don’t even miss you,” was “at the time” specifically about him.

Miley then went on to share some personal insights about the traumatic moment she and Liam lost their Malibu home in 2018 due to the Woolsey fire and that the trauma prompted them to tie the knot.

“Every song I had ever written was in that house, every photograph of me that my parents had given to me, all my scripts – I lost everything and so in trying to put that back together, instead of going, ‘Oh, nature kind of did something I couldn’t do for myself; it forced me to let go,’ I ran toward the fire,” she explained, adding that it’s “not abnormal” as many animals do the same thing.

“You’re attracted to that heat and me being an intense person and not wanting to sit with it, and not wanting to go, you know, ‘What could be purposeful about this?’ I just clung to what I had left of that house, which was me and him. And I really do and did love him very, very, very much and still do, always will.”

The Prisoner singer also revealed what led to her and Liam’s eventual break up.

“There was too much conflict,” Miley said.

“When I come home, I want to be anchored by someone. I don’t get off on drama or fighting.”

Miley had previously spoken about her “very public divorce” on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, remarking that it “f***ing sucked.”

“What really sucked about it wasn’t the fact that me and someone that I loved realised that we don’t love each other the way that we used to anymore. That’s okay. I can accept that,” she explained.

“I can’t accept the villainising and all those stories that like—it’s just amazing to me that the public kind of thinks that there’s no gap of time that they didn’t see that could possibly be what led to this.”

Miley and Liam tied the knot in December 2018 in a private ceremony but announced that they had parted ways in August 2019.

Since the divorce, Liam has off-loaded his and Miley’s former Malibu property. Who’s sister publication PEOPLE magazine reported that the Hunger Games star sold the three-hectare estate for just under $4.9 million in October.

Desperate for a fresh start, Liam didn’t mind having to take a massive loss on the sale after he forked out $9.2 million for the property in 2014 and is now based in Australia with his new love, Gabriella Brooks.

“Gabby has been living with Liam since quarantine started so his family have gotten very close to her, she’s totally one of them now,” a family friend told Hollywood Life in November.

“Liam is very happy with her and so is his family. They think Gabby is a great match for him and they’d love to see them eventually settle down together.”
