The brand new reality TV show My Reno Rules has launched onto our screens and the stakes are high! The renovators are in with a chance of winning $1 million dollars, and in this economy, I might even consider putting on a hard hat and getting to work.
The premise of the show is basically this: four teams are renovating two rundown homes in Bulleen, Melbourne after they were each bought for $2.7 million by serial The Block bidder Adrian Portelli.
The winner will be decided by three expert judges — Neale Whitaker (style icon and veteran of The Block), Simon Cohen (a top buyer’s agent from Luxe Listings Sydney) and Julia Green (an interior stylist and founder of Greenhouse).
So, who, may you ask, is competing for this million dollar prize?
Let us formally introduce you.
Mitch and Shaz

The couple are from Queensland and share a 13-year-old son named Lenny.
Mitch works as a landscape project manager and Shaz runs her own interior design business, however the pair have been vocal about the show’s cost-of-living reality.
In promotions for the show, Shaz shared that the family were living week to week, with only $65 left over a fortnight after all their expenses and bills were paid off.
The pair were selling their belongings to bring in extra cash, and explained their son is their “ultimate why” for going on the show and being determined to take home the win.
Nathan and Julia

These two hail from Victoria and share three young daughters, who were also their motivation to get involved and win the show.
Nathan has an electrical background and Julia has picked up multiple trades from previous projects, with the pair eager to win in order to claim the most precious prize of all: “more time with the kids”.
They believe they strike a good balance as a team, with Nathan often the practical one as Julia pushes their projects forward with “wild ideas”.
Franky and Isaac

Franky and Isaac are mates from Melbourne who go way back, and their core motivator to be on the show is a very relatable one: to finally break into the property market.
While the pair don’t have a lot of renovation experience, they feel steadied by their ability to read each other in stressful situations, and hope this will give them a competitive edge on the show.
Franky is eager to host a “big fat Greek barbeque” with his family and Isaac wants to get on the property ladder with his fiancé and start a family.
Emma and Michelle

Emma and Michelle are the mother-daughter duo we didn’t see coming but are most definitely happy have arrived.
From Queenslander, Emma runs her own interior design, property development and creative studio, and Michelle has been hands-on with multiple home builds over the years.
Emma admits she’s a bit of a perfectionist and will plan every inch of the renovation, while Michelle said she wants to enjoy every day of the “once-in-a-lifetime” experience.
