Shooter cancelled after season 3

Will Netflix pick up where USA left off or is this the end for Bob Lee Swagger?

Seasons one and two had fans chomping at the bit, but the third season now looks to be the last as ratings drop for Shooter.

The show, starring Ryan Philippe as Marine Corps sniper Bob Lee Swagger started well and was touted by Business Insider as one of the most anticipated TV shows returning this year.

But since its June 21 release on USA Network, the show’s ratings have dropped dramatically. Bob Lee Swagger, already a literary hit thanks to the Stephen Hunter series of books, was initially made into a movie, featuring Mark Wahlberg, who now produces the TV show.

So after starting so well, why has Bob Lee lost his swagger? Part of the reason could be because the season two finale was cut short after Philippe was injured leaving the show with an unplanned cliffhanger – literally.

So when Season 3 launched it was all guns blazing. Only, not even gun-loving Bob Lee has the trigger skills to keep this one alive.

Fans of the show aren’t surprised the USA network have decided to call it quits after the latest run, leaving comments such as “ I’ve kind of had trouble following it this season but I like the cast and characters so I have stuck with it.” And “Season three is a chore to watch. Season one was great.”

So if Wahlberg or a new showrunner can pick up the game and not leave the fans hanging with another cliffhanger then maybe Netflix will pick up the rights and provide Swagger and his castmates with the ammunition they really need.
