Los Angeles police have officially confirmed that Nick Reiner is “responsible” for the horrific murder of his parents- Hollywood director Rob Reiner, and talented photographer Michele Singer.
The couple were found murdered in their Los Angeles home on December 14 by their 27-year-old daughter, Romy.
The actor’s youngest daughter allegedly told the police that her “dangerous” brother Nick had been living there and was “possibly behind the murders and should be considered a suspect.”

The 32-year-old has since been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, however, his attorney said he has not yet been medically cleared for transport to the courthouse.
Here is a clear breakdown of events leading to Nick’s murder charge, including the “heated argument” between him and his father the night before:
2015: Rob and Michele express regret over Nick’s treatment

In a 2015 interview with the LA Times, the parents expressed regret at how they had dealt with their Nick’s addiction.
“When Nick would tell us that it wasn’t working for him, we wouldn’t listen. We were desperate and because the people had diplomas on their wall, we listened to them when we should have been listening to our son,” Rob said of his son.
Michele added: “We were so influenced by these people. They would tell us he’s a liar, that he was trying to manipulate us. And we believed them.”
2016: Nick opens up about his drug addiction

In a 2016 interview with People, Nick told the outlet that his stints in and out of rehab began around age 15, however, as his addiction worsened, he moved further away from home and spent large stretches of time homeless in other US states.
Nick told the outlet that the nights and sometimes weeks he spent sleeping outside later became the inspiration for the semi-autobiographical film Being Charlie, which he co-wrote.
Referring to how he recovered from his drug addiction at the time, Nick added: “I got sick of it. I got sick of doing that shit. I come from a nice family. I’m not supposed to be out there on the streets and in homeless shelters doing all these f*****-up things.”
2025: Rob and Michele share fears over Nick

In the months leading up to their murder, Michele and Rob are said to have been distraught over their son’s spiralling mental illness and drug issues, with Michele reportedly telling friends, ‘we’ve tried everything,’ according to TMZ.

It has now been revealed that Rob and his son got into a “heated argument” on Saturday night at Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party.
Sources told People: “Nick was freaking everyone out, acting crazy, kept asking people if they were famous.”
A source has also told NBC News that Nick “interrupted Bill Hader” at the party and was allegedly left annoyed when the comedian told him he was “in the middle of a private conversation.”
The source added following Bill’s comment: “Nick just stood there and stared before storming off.”
The unsettling interaction is said to have concerned other partygoers who were aware of Nick’s volatile past with drugs and violence.
Rob and Michele, then reportedly left the party after the argument, according to TMZ.
December 14, 2025: Romy finds her parents’ bodies

The couple were found murdered in their Los Angeles home on Sunday by daughter Romy who went over to the house at 15:30 pm following a call from their masseuse.

December 14, 2025: Nick checks into hotel

According to TMZ, following his parents’ murder on Sunday, Nick checked into the Pierside Santa Monica in Santa Monica, California, around 4am using his own credit card.
Eyewitnesses told Page Six that Nick appeared “tweaked out” upon arrival but said there were no visible signs that he had murdered his parents, i.e. no blood on his clothes or cuts on his body to indicate that he had been in a violent altercation.
The reservation was reportedly made for just one day, however, the 32-year-old never formally checked out.
TMZ also reported that when housekeeping came into Nick’s room later Sunday morning, they claimed that the window had been covered by bed sheets, the shower was “full of blood” and there was also blood on the bed.

Romy told police Nick was not there when she arrived, however, he was finally located and arrested at approximately 9:15 PM Sunday.
LAPD Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton told CNN that Nick “did not resist arrest or try to run away,” adding that he was taken into custody “without issue.”
The LA Sheriff’s Department confirmed on Monday that the director’s youngest son, Nick, was in custody and being held on a $US4 million ($6m AUD) bail agreement, however, he is now being held in jail without bond.
