The full trailer for ‘Once Upon a Time…In Hollywood’ just dropped and it’s wild

It's everything we wanted and more!

Hours before the movie premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, director Quentin Tarantino unexpectedly dropped the full trailer for Once Upon a Time…In Hollywood.

The first sequence shows bonafide celebrity Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) in the midst of serious turmoil as they navigate their way through the end of Hollywood’s golden era in the ’60s.

“It’s official, old buddy,” Rick admits to Cliff after an on-set meltdown. “I’m a has-been.”

The next scene introduces us to Sharon Tate (Margot Robbie)— the actress and wife of famous director Roman Polanski who was murdered by the Manson Family. In an unexpected twist, we see Cliff hanging around Spahn Movie Ranch— An area in which the Manson clan presided months before they began their killing spree. Interestingly, the clip infers that Pitt’s character is mesmerised by the inner workings of the Mansion cult, however, it’s unclear if there’s more to the story.

The two-and-a-half minute trailer also features Al Pacino, Luke Perry, Timothy Olyphant and Kurt Russell, and pays homage to Tarantino’s critically acclaimed film Inglourious Basterds with the inclusion of a scene where Dalton is torching Nazis.

While the premise of the film has been kept under wraps, Quentin Tarantino described the film as a “story that takes place in Los Angeles at the height of hippy Hollywood. The two lead characters are Rick Dalton, former star of a Western TV series, and his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth. Both are struggling to make it in a Hollywood they don’t recognise anymore. But Rick has a very famous next-door neighbour … Sharon Tate.”

Following the premiere of his ninth film at the Cannes Film Festival last night, critics who scored an invite took to Twitter to gush over the highly anticipated flick.

The Guardian‘s Peter Bradshaw said the “brilliant” film is “shocking, gripping, dazzlingly shot,” while Indiewire‘s Anne Thompson said “DiCaprio and Pitt are funny and brilliant, as is Margot Robbie as sweet Sharon Tate.”
