On December 14, Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer were brutally murdered in their Los Angeles home.
The couple’s 32-year-old son Nick has since been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and is scheduled to be arraigned on January 7.
In the aftermath of the beloved director and photographer’s death, thousands of heart-warming tributes have been shared- but one in particular stands out.
That is their close bond with “wrongly incarcerated” inmate Nanon Williams, which has led to the discovery of another tragic detail in the horrific crime.
How did Rob Reiner and Michele Singer hear about Nanon Williams?
The late couple formed a connection with Nanon Williams after watching a production of the stage show inspired by his story of incarceration- Lyrics From Lockdown in 2016.
In an interview with NBC, Rob and Michele’s youngest daughter, Romy, said Williams “became like family,” and revealed that her parents allegedly offered him the opportunity to live with them if he were ever released from prison.
Why was Nanon Williams imprisoned?

Nanon was just 17-years-old when he was sent to death row for a murder he alleges he didn’t commit. He has spent 34 years in prison.
Williams did not have an easy life by any means and even witnessed his own uncle’s murder at age 7.
He went on to buy and sell drugs and on the night of May 13, 1992, he was present at the murder of Adonius Collier, 19.
A co-defendant, Vaal Guevara, claimed that he watched Williams pull the trigger, while a ballistics expert said the bullet recovered from Collier’s skull came from Williams’ .25-caliber handgun.
At his 1995 trial, Nanon was sentenced to death. His lawyer never even challenged the prosecutor’s claims, calling their evidence “fail-safe.”
However, in 2021 following a more in depth look at the trial’s evidence, a state judge held post-conviction hearings and concluded Williams deserved a new trial.
Unfortunately, the recommendation was rejected by the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals.
When did Nanon Williams learn of Rob and Michele’s death?

Nanon was in his cell at the W.F. Ramsey Unit, a maximum-security prison in Houston, Texas, when he learned of the beloved director and his wife’s death two days after.
According to NBC News, he messaged Michele on his state-issued tablet: “Please, this can’t be true, tell me the news is lying.”
What were Rob Reiner and Michele Singer’s final words to Nanon Williams?

The late couple attended the show inspired by Nanon’s life once again just two days before their death.
Alongside the pair was Romy, Billy Crystal and his wife Janice, and Williams’ mum, sisters, and his wife, whom he married from prison.
As email exchanges oftentimes take days in prison due to screening delays, Nanon received three new emails from Rob and Michele in the days thereafter.
Michele referred to the show as “amazing” adding: “We all said that we can’t wait to watch it with you.”
Before signing off, “Love you, Michele.”
What did Nanon say about Rob and Michele?

According to NBC News, Williams “didn’t really know” who the When Harry Met Sally director was, but was grateful for their interest in his case.
“The more they learned, the more pissed off Rob became, and the more loving Michele became,” Nanon told the outlet.
Rob and Michele were “an integral part of my life,” he shared.
“They became a part of me,” adding that he was introduced to their children virtually.
