When you’re the daughter of one of the most well-known musicians in the world, fame is something you have to get used to from a young age. Eve Hewson, who is the second child of U2 frontman Bono (Paul David Hewson) and activist Ali Hewson, has been no stranger to the spotlight thanks to her famous dad.

However, next month, the light is set to well and truly shine on her when the 2018 remake of Robin Hood hits our screens.

The 27-year-old plays a ‘rebel’ version of Maid Marian, the love interest of Robin Hood, played by Taron Egerton and stars alongside major actors Jamie Foxx and Jamie Dornan.

“She’s sort of the rebel and will not compromise and she’s very, very passionate,” Eve tells WHO.

A graduate of New York University, Eve landed her first major role in 2011, in This Must Be The Place starring Sean Penn, after her parents urged her to follow a career away from the spotlight.

But what do her parents think about her role playing one of the world’s most famous female characters on the silver screen?

In this exclusive, WHO sits down with Eve to get all the juicy details about the highly anticipated new film…

Your parents discouraged you from a career in the spotlight in the beginning, but what about now?

They’re like crazy stage mums and stage dads, the two of them. I think they discouraged me because it’s just a difficult life. And I remember my dad always saying … because I played music when I was growing up, and I was saying to him, ‘I don’t know if I want to be a musician or an actor’ and he would say, ‘well if you’re an actor you’ll be really, really lonely all the time because you’ll be on location somewhere by yourself.’ So I became an actor and I was like, ‘oh, you’re kind of right!’ You move from set to set. You’re constantly meeting new people. And there’s so much rejection all the time. Acting’s really embarrassing. Sometimes it can be nerve-racking too. You’re on a crew of 600 people and there’s a lot of pressure. So they were right in warning me off it. But now they’ve seen me progress and do well, they’re really excited. They’re just so excited for this movie. It actually comes out on my mum’s birthday. So we know what we’re doing for her birthday party!

Do you feel that coming from the family you come from made it easier or tougher to find your own place in the world of showbusiness?

It’s both. It’s very strange and people don’t know that. It was much easier for me to get in the door, because people are interested in you because of your dad. That’s just the way it is. I went to theatre school in New York and I have so many friends who are insanely talented, far more talented than me, that can’t get a meeting with an agent. For whatever reason the business has really changed. Agents used to go and hunt down the talent and now they don’t have to. That’s why you see so many people who come from those families … so, it was much easier for me. But weirdly enough it can also be really difficult. I think people judge you harder. You have to work harder.

The expectation you mean?

Actually the expectation is lower, I think. Sometimes people think you’re going to be really bad because they think you’re spoiled and you don’t care or you just want to be famous.

And this movie is the proof?

Yeah this will be the first time people really see me for an extended period of time in a movie theatre, which I’m

really excited about.

You’ve got a big kissing scene in this film with Taron – how many takes did you get for that?

I wish we did more!

So Taron’s a good kisser?

Of course he is!

He said he enjoyed kissing you too!

Did he? Oh, that was money well spent.

[Laughs]

It’s a very male-oriented set; are you comfortable around all the guys?

Yeah, I’m a total tomboy so I’m very, very comfortable around a bunch of dudes. I actually kind of enjoy it.

It’s like having a lot of crazy older brothers. And they all give you different pieces of advice. Like, Tim

Minchin has a lot of knowledge about things. Jamie Dornan is the one that will make you laugh all day long.

Taron you could have sing-a-longs with – he loves to sing, and Jamie Foxx loves to dance! It’s a really special group of people. I don’t know of any movie like this that has such a big cast and we’re just having fun.
