Who is Alex Cooper?

Alex Cooper’s main claim to fame is as the host of the popular Call Her Daddy podcast. But what of her life before that?

Cooper was born in Pennsylvania to a sports television producer, Bryan, and a psychologist. Perfect beginnings for a podcaster known for her interviewing skills, right? She has two older siblings, with whom she remains close. Her brother, Grant, officiated her 2023 wedding to film producer Matt Kaplan. Meanwhile, her sister, Kathryn, serves as a business manager and producer on Call Her Daddy.

Podcasting isn’t the only realm in which Cooper has found success. As shown in the Call Her Alex trailer, Cooper was headed for a career as a professional soccer player. She played in the Division 1 team at her university, where she studied film and televison, but stopped due to an undisclosed traumatic incident with her coach.

Searching for a new career, Cooper launched Call Her Daddy in 2018 with her roommate, Sofia Franklyn. The podcast swiftly rose to fame, and by the end of 2018, the hosts sold the rights to a company called Barstool Sports. The initial three-year contract reportedly earned Cooper and Franklyn US $75,000 each as a salary. By the end of the contract, Sofia parted ways with Barstool and Alex’s salary was upped to around $500k. This was still a paltry sum compared to what was to come.

In 2021, Spotify won an exclusive deal to distribute Call Her Daddy for the humble fee of US $60 million. In 2025, this was doubled, with Alex selling distribution rights to SiriusXM for $125 million.

The podcast continues to be one of the most popular of all time. Call Her Daddy continues to attract major celebrity talent, including ground-breaking, in-depth interviews with talent like Miley Cyrus, Paris Hilton and more. In 2024, Cooper even initiated a major cultural shift when she had then-US Presidential hopeful, Kamala Harris, on the podcast.
