From his early days on Love Island to his meme-worthy moments on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here, Australia has fallen in love with Welsh reality TV lover boy Callum Hole.
After gathering a loyal fan following his unabashed ability to ponder life’s big questions (because let’s be real, who *actually* understands how a caterpillar becomes a butterfly), the 26-year-old has traded the jungle for the wild west of the Cairns nightlife for the inaugural series of Aussie Shore.
It’s no secret that the Shore franchise is home to some of the most dramatic, uncensored, and quotable TV moments, and after busting into the house mid-way through the season, it’s safe to say that Callum’s time on the show is no different.
Before the group headed on their next night out, WHO sat down with Callum to get the inside scoop on his first trip to the Aussie Shore.
The Shore franchise has such a cult following. Why did you want to join Aussie Shore? Did you know much about the franchise before stepping into the house?
I didn’t really know much about the franchise, to be honest. It was very last minute to be brought on the show. I didn’t really do much research, but I’m always open to trying new experiences and new TV shows, so I took it with both hands.
This season’s boss Charlotte Crosby is such a Geordie Shore icon. Did she give you any advice about what to expect before you entered the house?
I actually didn’t see Charlotte until she came into the house and told me that I had to go to work, which was something I didn’t know I had to do in this house, so I was actually taken by surprise. I liked her until she told me I had to go to work.
I thought I was there as a party boy for one night to have fun and bring a birthday cake, but no, I was sent to work pretty much first thing the next morning with the most filthy hangover of my life.
You’re no stranger to having Aussie castmates, but what was it like partying with the Aussie Shore cast? Was there anything you were surprised by?
I’m always surprised by the Aussie partying culture, because it’s such a big culture, and it’s just so much fun. It’s the country and the climate for it, but I was actually just taken aback by how wild the group of people in that house were.
I was expecting it to be wild, but not to the extent that it was, but I had the best time.
It was the only show that I’ve done where I haven’t been stressed because obviously, it’s not a competition-based show, it’s just a matter of waking up and having fun every single day.
You obviously found an instant connection with Lexie, but was there anyone else that you gravitated towards in the house?
I had a quick connection with Lexie, to say the least. I was actually surprised by that, but going on nights out, I was close with all the cast members for sure.
I’m a very outgoing person, so I was chatting up basically every girl in Cairns and just doing what I do best in the nightclubs.
Were you surprised that your connection with Lexie caused so much drama?
I had no idea. I can’t even find love on a love show. I can’t even get a good connection on a Love Island sort of thing, so I was not expecting to find any connection with anyone on this show, and then what’s the chance that I kind of did?
With deeper connections come more arguments and that sort of thing because there are feelings involved, so it was a bit of a headache, but it is what it is.
You also made an effort to restart your friendship with Catia after her party. Were you shocked by Con’s reaction?
I couldn’t believe it. I was so shocked. I just thought it was easygoing and I didn’t think there would be that much drama involved because it’s not a competition show.
I think a lot of it was to do with emotions and having feelings for other people and that’s where it all sort of stemmed from, and then you throw a bit of alcohol in the mix and of course, everything is going to be enhanced.
While you were on your first night out, you said that you were not a relationship person. What have you learned about the dating scene through your experience with it in so many different formats?
It’s very hard because I do have commitment issues and I’m not looking to really settle down, but I’m always looking to have some fun.
For me, I’ve learned that I need to tell these girls exactly what’s going to happen from the start and not lead them on, but with Lexie, I feel like I did go against my word and told her what she wanted to hear.
I never regret any of my decisions. Lexie and I did have an agreement, but at the end of the day, it’s Aussie Shore, we’re young, and we’re here to have fun.
