Sharing the news to social media, HBO confirmed that production on the third instalment of the gritty teen drama is now underway. While they didn’t offer any extra info, the production company dropped the first glimpse of Zendaya’s return to the show as Rue.

After increased speculation that the show may be headed for cancellation, news of Euphoria’s long-awaited return was initially confirmed in July 2024,

“I am thrilled that we are ready to begin production on Euphoria in January. We could not be happier with our creative partnership with Sam [Levinson] and this incredible cast. We looking forward to bringing this new season of Euphoria to life for the fans,” HBO Executive Vice President of Programming Francesca Orsi said in a statement.

Who is the cast of Euphoria Season 3?

With over a four-year gap between productions, fans of Euphoria have speculated over who will and will not be returning for season three.

According to TheWrap, it has been reported that the entire main cast of core characters will be returning to reprise their roles, however, some cast members have previously confirmed that they will not be returning to the show.

Speaking on the Armchair Expert podcast in April 2023, Barbie Ferreira, who portrays Kat, announced that she would not be reprising her role in the upcoming season, stating that she and director Sam Levinson came to a “mutual decision.”

“I don’t think there was a place for [Kat] to go. I think there were places she could have gone. I just don’t think it would have fit into the show… I really wanted to be able to not be the fat best friend. I don’t want to play that, and I think they didn’t want it either.”

“I felt was a kind of a struggle for both parties—Sam, me—it was a struggle to find the continuation of her so that was actually really hurtful, watching it and seeing the fans get upset,” she continued, adding, “Sam writes for things that he relates to. I don’t think he relates to Kat.”

If you’re up to date with the latest season, you’ll know there’s currently a big question mark hanging over Rue’s fate. Despite the uncertainty, Zendaya has been confirmed to reprise her role as Rue, with Sam telling ELLE that he sees season three as a “film noir” through which Rue will “explore what it means to be an individual with principles in a corrupt world.”

Given the various cliffhangers at the end of season two, it is unknown what exactly will happen to Cassie, Maddy, Nate, and Jules, however, it is believed that Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie, Jacob Elordi, and Hunter Schafer will be reunited for another season.

Sadly for fans, the tragic passing of star Angus Cloud in July 2023 has meant that Fezco’s storyline in the series has drawn to a close, with co-star Colman Domingo sharing with Teen Vogue that prior to his passing, Angus was slated to play a central role in Euphoria season three.

“I’m sure it affected the creation of season three because Angus was going to be a very strong part of it… We came together as a cast many times to grieve, to mourn, to laugh, and enjoy all the things we know about Angus.”

When is Euphoria Season 3 coming out?

While production on the third season of Euphoria has been confirmed for 2025, unfortunately, we don’t know when the series will be returning to our screens.

Despite the delay, production on the previous two seasons took roughly 12 months, meaning that fans could anticipate seeing our favourite high schoolers return as early as late 2025.

How many episodes is Euphoria Season 3?

With an all-star cast and fans desperate for another season, the demand for an extended run-time of Euphoria is understandably high. Despite the fan fervour, HBO executive Casey Bloys told Variety ahead of production, “I know the show gets a lot of attention now because it has created some genuine movie stars, and they have various projects they are working on, but we are shooting this season so nothing has changed. It’s eight episodes.”
