My Kitchen Rules has had a chaotic start to the season, with dinner table disagreements and dramatic walk-outs almost convincing fans to turn off the show entirely.

Loyal fans of the show will know that this controversy and the big personalities are all part of the fun (and typical of reality TV).

However, not all the viewers are taking the chaos with a grain of salt, with many lashing out online and directing their disappointment at this years’ contestants.

While reality TV stars are no stranger to online trolls, the nature of hating human beings online has gone too far, and it’s continued this season of My Kitchen Rules.

‘Villain’ or not, these are real people.

After only one week into the show, the fans discourse has got so loud that Channel Seven released a statement to address the behaviour.

Fans had a divided response to this statement

Despite the statement’s well-meaning intentions, fans had a divided response, with some agreeing to “stop the trolls” and others calling out the irony of the post.

“Maybe say to the contestants to respect everyone and stop this drama,” one fan wrote beneath the Instagram statement.

“So why not apply this to the contestants,” another chimed in.

Many viewers also pointed out that the show thrives on the “drama” that feeds these harmful comment sections.

“Please stop making it so edited and all about the “drama” rather than the cooking,” one user wrote in response to the statement.

“You script this. You want the feedback and the outrage,” another replied.

“Drama for the ratings are everything,” a third added. “Don’t want to hear what viewers think do they? Double standards.”
