The Summer I Turned Pretty’s (TSITP) latest season was a tad shorter than we’re used to and with ongoing strikes, we don’t know when they can start filming for season 3.

Although after a few days, Emily finds herself trying to date after a long-term relationship and ends up in multiple love triangles, disliked at work and worried about running into her downstairs neighbour.
Emily is like an older Belly, except instead of first love, she’s learning to love again. With her future unclear, all romantic relationships, friendships and work relationships become complicated.

3. Normal People

Marianne and Connell aren’t exactly likely friends and they’re even more unlikely lovers. Connell betrays Marianne as they finish high school and he expects her to never speak to him again. After they meet again, against all odds, their complex relationship continues.
Now, we will warn you, Normal People is a bit *deeper* than the other suggestions. An adaption from Sally Rooney’s Normal People, a Booktok favourite!

4. Set It Up

Two assistants decide to team up to set up their bosses in hopes that they’ll be nicer to them. They control their dates, their romantic gestures and pretty much their entire love lives! While focusing on their bosses’ love lives they forget about their own.
This film is in the same league as all our favourite 2000s rom-coms. Warning: This may feed into your delusions about your office crush!

5. Love, Victor

In the same universe as the 2018 film, Love Simon, the story follows a new student at Creekwood High School, Victor. He begins to face challenges at home and starts to struggle with his sexuality and so he reaches out to Simon for help in navigating high school.
This coming-of-age series is full of self-discovery, understanding love and adjusting to change.

6. Heartstopper

The story follows Nick and Charlie and their unlikely friendship. Charlie is a high-strung, overthinker who is very comfortable in his sexuality and Nick is a soft-hearted rugby player who doesn’t fully understand what he wants. When the friendship seems like something more for one of them, will they confess to the other?
A heart-warming romance that will bring back the feeling of first love.

7. Dickinson

A highly fictionalised version of aspiring writer Emily Dickinson. The show follows Emily as she rebels against her strict background from being embarrassed by her own parents and shunned from society she is set on making her voice heard.
Emily is a tad more outspoken than Belly but they both crave independence and recognition of it from their friends and family.

8. The Last Song

Rebellious teen Ronnie goes to live with her father for the summer in a small beach town. Ronnie resents her father and spends her days trying to avoid spending time with him and just so happens to find a spark with an arrogant, local, golden boy. As she starts to fall in love she rediscovers her love for music, the one thing that she shares with her father.
Based on a Nicholas Sparks novel, this small-town love story will surprise you in the best way. Similar to TSITP, this movie shares the highs and lows of summer love and the importance of choosing between your head and your heart.

9. XO, Kitty

It’s Lara Jean’s little sister’s time to shine. Kitty thinks she knows everything about love when she moves halfway across the world to reunite with her long-distance boyfriend. What she discovers? Love isn’t so simple when it’s your own heart on the line.
