After taking us on another vacation to Thailand, it’s safe to say that Season three of The White Lotus definitely went out with a bang (no pun intended).
Season three was a whirlwind of drama, smoothies, and unexpected twists that kept fans hooked from start to finish, and if we weren’t already dreaming of our next vacation, the finale has left us with *lots* of questions.
Now that the curtain has closed on the Ratliff’s Thai getaway, we can start longing for the next escape. With season four of The White Lotus now in production in the South of France, this season was teased to be a “fun and funnier” viewing compared to past seasons, according to creator Mike White when speaking to Entertainment Tonight.
However, after only nine days into filming, one of the show’s key A-listers has been cut from the show and her role re-written for someone new.
Set amongst the backdrop of the Cannes Film Festival, fame, fortune, and celebrity vices will be at the centre.
However, after this shock exit news so soon into filming, it seems all the drama of showbiz is on display behind the scenes as well.

Who was cut from The White Lotus Season 4?
The one and only Helena Bonham Carter – who arguably had fans most excited for the show’s upcoming season – has left The White Lotus just over a week into filming, as confirmed by HBO on Saturday, April 25.

As filming continues while the producers find a suitable replacement, a HBO spokesperson confirmed to E! News that the two-time Oscar nominee was removed from the show as Helena Bonham Carter’s character – who Mike White created for the show – did not end up aligning with the season.
“With filming just underway on season four of The White Lotus, it had become apparent that the character which Mike White created for Helena Bonham Carter did not align once on set,” the spokesperson said.
“The role has subsequently been rethought, is being rewritten and will be recast in the coming weeks. HBO, the producers and Mike White are saddened that they won’t get to work with her, but remain ardent fans and very much hope to work with the legendary actress on another project soon.”
While it’s certainly an awkward twist, it seems that Carter’s departure was amicable.
Good luck to whoever is cast to fill Carter’s shoes! Let’s hope the decision was worth it!
Who is in the cast of The White Lotus Season 4?
The cast of The White Lotus season 4 has slowly been dropped throughout the start of 2026.
On March 31, 2026 Heather Graham, Rosie Perez, Frida Gustavsson, Tobias Santelmann, Ben Schnetzer, and Laura Smet were also announced as members of the cast. On March 18, 2026, HBO confirmed that Chloe Bennet, Max Greenfield, Charlie Hall, Kumail Nanjiani and Jarrad Paul are all heading to France for the next season.
Previously confirmed cast members for the fourth season include Sandra Bernhard, Steve Coogan, Ari Graynor, Alexander Ludwig, Chris Messina, AJ Michalka, Caleb Jonte Edwards, Marissa Long, and Dylan Ennis.
Where will The White Lotus Season 4 be set?
After visiting the shores of Hawaii, Italy, and Thailand, the million dollar question for every White Lotus fan remains; where will they go to next?
Bonjour! We are heading to France.
According to Deadline, creator Mike White and HBO have reportedly locked in the country as the backdrop for the hit murder-mystery dramedy’s highly anticipated fourth season.
HBO’s iconic Four Seasons partnership means we’re once again checking in somewhere seriously luxe and all eyes are on the French Riviera.
The hotels featured in this season include the Airelles Château de la Messardière as the White Lotus du Cap and the Hôtel Martinez as the White Lotus Cannes, and while majority of the storyline will be set in the Côte d’Azur, the season will also film in St. Tropez, Monaco and Paris.

Although it’s not quite the Australian dream we were all hoping for, there was some speculation originally that it could be coming to Australia, so fingers crossed for season 5!
“My dream would be to hit every continent… We kind of have to come to Australia if we keep going. It would be so fun,” Mike said during a Vivid Sydney event in 2023, adding, “Obviously, there’s a huge wealth of talent here, and the beauty is inarguable, so it feels like it checks all the boxes.”

What will The White Lotus Season 4 be about?
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight on April 5, 2026, Mike White confirms that season 4 of The White Lotus will be all “about fame.” That’s right, we’re getting a Cannes Film Festival plot line.
“It’s going to be a fun and funnier ‘White Lotus’,” Mike White teased to Entertainment Tonight. “Last season was kind of heavy, because it had those spiritual themes. This one is a bit more wickedly playful. It’s a different tone than the other seasons.”
“Season 4 is about fame. There are some people who are satisfied with the love of one intimate partner or a family, and then there are some people who need the love of strangers – they need that kind of affirmation.”
According to a synopsis released on Wednesday, April 2026, “the fourth season will follow a new group of White Lotus hotel guests and employees over the span of a week, taking place during the Cannes Film Festival.”
Already the South of France was luxe in our eyes, now an expected red carpet walk during the actual Cannes Film Festival? We’re sat.
When is The White Lotus Season 4 release date?
HBO confirmed on Wednesday, April 15, that Season 4 of The White Lotus has officially begun production and is set to film from April to October, 2026. Set in the South of France over the Cannes Film Festival, which takes place from May 12-23 this year, the cast is set to walk the red carpet at least once during the second week of the festival, according to a Variety source.
This means the series will most likely be released sometime in 2027 after production wraps in late 2026.
