The Boys spinoff Vought Rising is coming! Fans of the satirical American superhero show The Boys have made it one of the most successful Prime Video series in recent times.
Based on a comic book of the same name, it’s funny, biting and a little bit rude – and viewers have tuned in in droves.
The TV series follows the exploits of a bunch of vigilantes as they fight “Supes”, superpowered individuals who abuse their powers for personal gain.
So successful were the first four seasons of The Boys that Amazon Prime has already produced one spinoff, Gen V, which has attracted huge viewing numbers.
That’s paved the way for another spinoff, a prequel to The Boys called Vought Rising.
Here’s all we know so far about the show.
What is Vought Rising?
Vought Rising is an upcoming prequel to the hit series The Boys. Prime Video made the announcement that they’d greenlit the project at the 2024 San Diego Comic Con.
The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke said Vought Rising had been on the cards for a while, and now it was finally coming to fruition.
“When I went to Amazon to pitch (The Boys) spinoffs, I came with two spinoffs, Gen V and Vought Rising,” he told Variety.
“And at the time, they said, ‘Let’s start with Gen V, and we’ll see how it goes and then maybe we’ll do Rising. It turns out it went OK.”
Gen V, now in its second season, garnered huge viewer numbers, meaning there was likely to be an equally huge appetite for any spinoffs.
What is the plot of Vought Rising?
Set in 1950s New York, Vought Rising will chronicle how Vought International, the monopolistic company that features heavily in The Boys, came into being.
Vought International is the company that creates and manages the “Supes”, so the series will depict the events that brought about its formation.
Little else is known about the plot at this stage, but Kripke said the series will have a film noir feel, calling it “LA Confidential, but with superheroes.”
“I’m just fascinated with the history of how we became who we became. The Boys itself is basically a film noir,” Kripke told Variety.
“It’s like cops and robbers. So to really do it classically with like fedoras and trench coats and salacious stuff … is just going to be super-fun.”
Vought Rising cast
Vought Rising will star Aya Cash, who played Stormfront in season two of the original series, and Jensen Ackles, who played Soldier Boy in season three.
It will explore the exploits of Soldier Boy and Stormfront before the events depicted in The Boys.
“Jensen and Aya, they’re superstars,” Kripke said. “They’re gonna blow the doors off.”
No other cast members have been named at this stage.
Is Vought Rising before or after The Boys?
Before. Vought Rising will chronicle events before the first season of The Boys, including how the superhero company Vought International came into existence.
When is Vought Rising out?
Prime Video has yet to name the date, so The Boys fans have already begun speculating on when Vought Rising is most likely to come out. The previous spinoff, Gen V, was released just over a year after it was announced, so fans may have to wait until September 2025 or thereabouts to watch Vought Rising.
Will there be a second season of Vought Rising?
Ir’s unknown at this stage whether more than one season of Vought Rising has been greenlit. But given the success of Gen V, it’s more than likely as long as viewers flock to season one.
