When news first broke that The Boys was set to be renewed for Season five, fans were overjoyed, for a moment at least.

Their excitement was quickly overshadowed by the news that the fifth season would be the last of the hit Amazon series which has earned a loyal base of fans since it premiered in 2019.

As audiences patiently wait for the last season to drop (Season five’s expected release in 2024 is likely to be pushed as strikes persevere), there is some good news on the horizon – the highly anticipated spinoff, Gen Z, is here AND it’s been renewed for a second season.

What is Gen V?

Set in America’s only college for young adult superheroes, Gen V is set to explore the lives of hormonal, competitive Supes, the first generation of superheroes to know that their powers are from Compound V, as they put their physical, sexual, and moral boundaries to the test, competing for the school’s top ranking.

When the group of young supes discover that something bigger and sinister is going on at school, they’re put to the test: Will they be the heroes or the villains of their stories?

Although we know Gen V is based on the “We Gotta Go Now” story arc from Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s The Boys’  comic books, we’re still not sure how close the story will stick to the original plotline.

Will there be a second season of Gen V?

In October 2023, Prime Video announced that it officially ordered a second season of Gen V.

“Expanding the universe of The Boys with a series as bold as Gen V has been an incredible journey for us and our wonderful partners at Sony,” said Vernon Sanders, head of television, Amazon MGM Studios.

“From our first conversation with showrunners Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters, along with Eric Kripke, Evan Goldberg, and Seth Rogen, we knew Gen V would push the boundaries. Their unapologetic approach is exactly what audiences love, and it has helped Gen V become the No. 1 series on Prime Video in over 130 countries.”

“We couldn’t be happier to make a second season of Gen V,” added showrunner Michele Fazekas and executive producer Eric Kripke.

“These are characters and stories we’ve grown to love, and we are thrilled to know people feel the same! The writers are already working on the new season—sophomore year is gonna be wild, with all the twists, heart, satire, and exploding genitalia you’ve come to expect from the show.”
