Why do we love watching awards shows? Is it the glitz, the glamour? The little moments that become memes? Or do we genuinely love seeing our favourite shows and actors recognised for their incredible work?
Either way, the Emmys are back — and giving us every reason to watch it all unfold.
This year, fan-favourites Hacks and The Pitt are leading the pack. Hacks has set a record with 24 nominations in the Comedy category, while The Pitt leads Drama with 25.
On the acting side, it’s exciting to see Jamie Lee Curtis nominated for The Bear (still not over the Fishes episode) and Sarah Pidgeon recognised for her performance in Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette.
Other standout nominees include Steve Carell (Rooster), Harrison Ford (Shrinking), Lisa Kudrow (The Comeback), Gary Oldman (Slow Horses), and Michelle Pfeiffer (Margo’s Got Money Troubles).
Breakout performances also got their due, with Taylor Dearden (The Pitt), Chase Infiniti (The Testaments), and Connor Storrie (Saturday Night Live) all earning nominations.

The Awards take place on Sunday, September 13 in the U.S., which lands on Monday, September 14 for us in Australia.

Who is hosting the 2026 Emmy Awards?
The 2026 Emmys are hosted by Mariska Hargitay — actress, Emmy winner, and the iconic Olivia Benson from Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
Initially hesitant to take the gig, Mariska has since warmed up to it and has already been teasing her ideas for the stage. As she told Variety, she’s had one concept in mind for a while: “I’ve always wanted to do ‘SVU: The Musical.'”
