The Block is back for its 22nd series, and while it’s a show we all know and love, some major twists have been introduced this season to keep things interesting.

For the first time in the show’s history, the lots boast oceanfront views and are the biggest the teams have ever had to renovate.

But the most notable change this year (especially for the contestants) is that they’re all living together in one big house — Ben and Emma’s house from last year, to be exact.

The reaction from the teams was varied, with Jolene and Adam quite happy to be living in a caravan parked in the backyard, while Courtney wasn’t happy to be living in such proximity to her competitors, despite her and Sev being given the master bedroom and en suite bathroom.

“I’m not concerned about what room we’re in. I’m concerned about living in a house with all of my competition,” Courtney said.

“It’s like The Block meets Love Island vibes,” Lisa said, before her partner Rosco chimed in to say at least they wouldn’t be exchanging partners.

However, some of The Block contestants told WHO that living together presented a rather “awkward” situation for them all.

The absence of a bathroom roster was… a problem

Thanks to the room Courtney and Sev were assigned, they were lucky to dodge the fate of sharing a bathroom with anyone but each other, but the rest of them had to.

As many of us know, it can be difficult to share a bathroom with other adults, let alone strangers, so it definitely created some awkward off-camera moments between the cast.

Rick, in particular, struggled.

“It was a bit difficult trying to do your… I’m regular in the morning, so I do whatever I have to do,” he told WHO.

“I got up and got in the bathroom first. I don’t know who’s been in there. And my body’s like clockwork.”

Thankfully, the decades of being a tradie came in handy to deal with the early mornings, while Courtney and Sev didn’t know how the others managed “without a bathroom roster”.

“Courtney and I were super lucky because there weren’t those sort of awkward moments of accidentally running into one another in the bathroom,” Sev told WHO.

It seems like many of the contestants bonded, and bonded fast.
