We’re heading into week five of The Block, with teams tackling the living, dining and al fresco sections of their houses. While each room renovation presents new challenges, there is one persistent ‘challenge’ viewers face as they watch the show unfold — and fans are getting noisy about their dissatisfaction with it.
While all of the contestants have been guilty of trying to beg, borrow and steal supplies and tradies from others, the one team that viewers claim is always getting its way is Courtney and Sev.
The grumblings about it have become deafening online, with one viewer even calling it a “farce” that they are offered extra help from tradies (and even production) more often than others.
This occurred again when the Cursio brothers, who initially decided to work on House 2 (Chantel and Wyatt’s), were pulled into House 4 (Courtney and Sev’s) to help finish the tiling in their master ensuite bathroom as they were falling behind.
Cue the onslaught of frustration from fans.
What are The Block fans saying about Courtney and Sev?
Many fans seem to have had blinkers on when it comes to Courtney and Sev. Have they had extra help at times? Yes, but so have other teams.
For whatever reason, viewers can’t let go of the idea that there’s some favouritism going on for the girls.
“Not fair that House 4 keeps getting help from extra tradies, when the other houses are behind in their tiling too,” one said.
“And once again Dan helps the girls… He is beginning to become annoying in the way he is helping one particular house all the time, and not giving the other contestants anywhere near the same attention,” a second fan complained.
However, others came to their defence, saying House 1 (Adam and Jolene) were offered extra help finishing their main ensuite bathrooms.
“Did you watch the show with your eyes closed because House 1 also got help from the Cursios,” a viewer chimed in.
Courtney and Sev stand by their ‘aggressive’ approach to the competition
Courtney and Sev have been open about wanting to win the competition.
“We knew what was at play and we were always going to be aggressive,” Courtney previously told WHO.
“It was very competitive, and so I don’t think we were conscious of what was going on around us.
“We were just hell for leather. We were just thinking about ourselves and throwing everything that we could.”
Whether the women are getting more help than the others is a matter of opinion, but it does seem like viewers are keen to give them a harder time than the others.
