If you thought the biggest dramas on The Block involved budgets, builders or wildly ambitious room reveals, think again. Apparently, the real battleground this season is the humble kitchen sink.
Tuesday night’s episode saw tensions boil over between the contestants, with Chantel and Wyatt copping heat for leaving bowls in the sink after family dinners. The pair headed off to the gym instead of helping clean up, leaving poor Rosco to do the dishes for the second week in a row.
Lisa and Rosco were less than impressed, describing the habit as “gross”, while Jolene was even more blunt, branding Chantel and Wyatt “arrogant people” over the situation.

But while the drama was unfolding, two Blockheads were blissfully unaware of just how heated things had become. Courtney and Sev were away at the Chery getaway at Portsea Hotel when the tensions first kicked off, leaving them completely out of the loop.
And when they returned to the shared house, they could tell something was up. They just didn’t quite know what.
Courtney and Sev missed the bowl war
Speaking to WHO, Courtney admitted she and Sev were pretty much the last to know about the drama. They could feel the tension when they returned, but had no idea what had actually gone down.
“We were actually really out of the loop on that,” Courtney said.
They’d heard there had been some frustration around cleaning up after family dinners, but even the details were news to them. In fact, they didn’t realise just how deep the bowl drama went until they watched the episode themselves.
Courtney said they’d heard whispers about passive-aggressive notes being left in dirty bowls, but otherwise they were completely in the dark. Which, honestly, might be the best possible way to experience The Block.
Go away for a nice little getaway, come home, sense some tension in the air and then discover your housemates have apparently been fighting over crockery.
“There was so much drama over a bowl”
It wasn’t until Courtney and Sev watched the episode back that they realised just how tense that dinner had become.
“We were like, ‘Oh my gosh, there was so much drama over a bowl’,” Courtney said.
Sev was equally surprised by what she saw play out on screen, admitting “it was a little bit surprising to see how tense that dinner was”.
And while the pair may have missed the initial blow-up, Courtney said they could definitely feel that something had shifted when they returned. They just didn’t have the full context.
So what did Courtney make of the whole saga? Well, she’s got one very simple takeaway.
“What was very clear to us was that the contestants get really passionate about bowls in sinks,” she joked.
After weeks of watching The Block contestants battle over designs, budgets and building schedules, who knew the thing most likely to bring the entire house to breaking point would be a dirty bowl?
With all five couples still sharing a house, we’re guessing this isn’t the last we’ve heard about the kitchen sink
