Another week, another complaint about Courtney and Sev on The Block. This time, people are questioning why the Nine in Six team — who help all the teams build the infrastructure, drainage and utilities in their houses — decided to cover the women’s tradie costs after a tiling mishap.
Basically, while all the contestants competed in a cooking challenge off-site, one of Courtney and Sev’s tilers phoned to say there was a problem with their grouting and its spacing, and ultimately Nine in Six decided to have the tradies pull it up and do it again, concerned it aesthetically didn’t work.
Courtney received the call with the news and questioned why it wasn’t her or Sev making the design decision.
After hearing complaints, the contestants and the Nine in Six team sat down to discuss the situation. Ultimately, the right call was made, but poor communication about the mishap caused confusion, and the team offered to cover the tradie costs over the mishap.
Cue a fan frenzy.
Even before the internet was overrun with complaints, Courtney and Sev told WHO they anticipated the backlash a mile off, explaining the onslaught has been relentless.
What are The Block fans saying about the tiling mishap?
After the situation played out on screen, viewers were complaining that the team got “special treatment again”. It’s been a common complaint throughout the season, with some saying they continue to get extra help from production in comparison to the other teams.
“It’s so wrong. What about when House 3 had the waterproofing done wrong and was told to strip it and start again? Nine in Six didn’t pay for that, did they?” one fan said.
“It’s crazy how much help they get from Nine in Six. It’s so not fair to the other teams who pay for their own tradies’ mistakes themselves. So disappointed in the way this season is panning out.”
However, another viewer questioned if they really are the only team getting help from production, pointing to the edit.
“Are they the only ones getting special treatment? Others may get the same offers, but its just not shown on the episode?”

Courtney and Sev are ‘heartbroken’ by their The Block edit
Speaking to WHO, the contestants said it was “heartbreaking” that their edit was leaning into two major tropes: girls are bad at money, and they get more help compared to the teams with boys.
“That’s exactly what it’s starting to look like, and it just sort of sucks because we didn’t ask for that,” they said.
“We didn’t ask for that situation to happen. And the way that it’s starting to come across to the average viewer, without really understanding any context of, like, the entire story, [they] will make a quick judgment and see it like, okay, they reimbursed the girls. And so it’s not a loss on their part.
“Everyone’s seeing such a small snapshot of what each contestant goes through,” they said.
It’s something that even Chantel and Wyatt have touched on, telling WHO it’s been really “interesting” to see how each contestant seems to have been given a clear character archetype, and that only a tiny fraction of what is happening on-site is being shown on our screens.
“We just want to ask people to sort of take a minute and understand that there’s more context to each story and to sort of try and maybe look at it from our perspective, if they can,” Courtney and Sev said.
