It’s been a big week of renovating the main ensuite bathrooms for The Block teams, and after many tears and even one near-hospital visit, it was Rick and Tayla who secured the win.
The father-daughter duo snuck just ahead of Chantel and Wyatt after playing their extra ‘gnome point’ (which they were awarded after winning a mini challenge earlier in the week), and the pair celebrated their first win of the season, dancing around in elation.
However, despite Chantel and Wyatt winning $10,000 thanks to being the team closest to their intended budget, the pair were admittedly annoyed that they were pipped to the post, swearing when host Scott Cam announced they had just lost by half a point.
“Technically we won. We technically would have won if Tayla and Rick didn’t have the gnome,” Chantel said during the episode.
Speaking to WHO, the winners confessed there was some tension between the teams after their sly (and strategic) victory, but they ultimately didn’t care.
Tayla and Rick’s hilarious response to winning
When asked about the moment, Rick and Tayla confessed their bathroom wasn’t the best out of all the teams, and they were “lucky” to snag the win.
“Had we not had the gnome they would have beat us. They did have the better bathroom,” Rick told WHO.

When asked how he would respond to his competitors’ frustration over the win, the 63-year-old had a juvenile (and somewhat hilarious) comeback.
“Up ya bum,” Rick said.
I’m not sure exactly what that means, but I guess he’s basically saying ‘sucks to be you’.
Tayla chimed in with an apology but admitted the extra gnome point “saved our arses”.
Chantel and Wyatt remain positive despite narrow loss
Despite coming so close to winning the room reveal (and not yet securing a win this season), Chantel and Wyatt are determined to remain optimistic.
“But we won the budget so we won ten grand anyway, so it’s a great night,” Chantel said.
