The first trailer for The Joker has been released and trust me when I say it doesn’t disappoint.
The terrifying first look focuses on Arthur Fleck’s life before he turned into a psychotic clown. Living with his mother and working as a clown on the streets, his life begins to unravel as he is relentlessly teased, abused, and forced to fake a smile.
“My mother always tells me to smile and put on a happy face,” says the Joker, played by Joaquin Phoenix. “She told me I had a purpose — to bring laughter and joy to the world.”

The trailer highlights his chilling transformation from a young man struggling with mental illness, to a giggly villain who is ready to kill.
“Is it just me, or is it getting crazier out there?” he says. “I used to think that my life was a tragedy. But now I realise it’s a comedy.”
Yesterday Todd Phillips, the film’s director, shared the poster for the standalone film. In the horrifying photo, Joaquin Phoenix is in full Joker mode, sporting smeared makeup.
The caption read, “Put on a happy face.”
