The hype around The Love Hypothesis is huge, and it’s taking me all the way back to The Summer I Turned Pretty and People We Meet on Vacation.
Of course, fuelling that hype is our leading lady, Lili Reinhart, who’s been raiding the wardrobes of some of the most iconic rom-coms of all time for her press tour looks.
Yes, we’re talking that yellow dress from How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Brittany Murphy’s gorgeous floral number from Uptown Girls, and even the purple bandage dress from Miss Congeniality.
But while everyone’s fixated on those looks (iconic as they are), I’ve been a little more distracted by Lili’s character, Olive, and her subtler, subdued fits in The Love Hypothesis.
Where Lili’s press tour looks are bold hypotheses, Olive Smith’s on-screen wardrobe is the control group: quiet, considered, and consistent.
In the lab, she’s all precision and logic, and her wardrobe follows the same formula. You’ll see plenty of soft knits, easy silhouettes, and a colour palette that feels more “grad student” than “leading lady,” but in the best way.
She’s not dressing to be noticed. She’s dressing like someone who has better things to think about, like biology or the logistics of fake dating her lab partner. And somehow, that makes her more memorable.
Olive’s best looks in The Love Hypothesis

The red floral dress
This is Olive at her most unguarded, and the outfit knows it. The sweetheart neckline and delicate straps are softer than anything we’ve seen from her in the lab, and the deep red floral print feels almost like a plot twist.
If you’re building your own version of the look, here are a few dupes worth shopping:

The LBD
This is the “off-duty” Olive, out of the lab and somewhere far more romantic, and the little black dress does exactly what it’s supposed to: says everything without trying too hard.
It’s simple, fitted, and quietly confident, the kind of dress that works because it doesn’t ask for attention.

The red polka dot dress
This one is peak “flustered but still put-together” Olive, and the wrap dress fits the vibe perfectly. The polka dots add a playful, almost old-school romantic feel, while the wrap silhouette keeps things polished even as she’s visibly spiralling.
It’s a dress that does double duty: cute enough for a chaotic confession, professional enough that she could walk straight back into the lab after.
