Starring Miranda Tapsell, who also co-wrote the script, and Bohemian Rhapsody’s Gwilym Lee as young city-based couple Lauren and Ned, Top End Wedding is a beautifully written, well-cast Australian rom-com with a twist. Watch the trailer below.
Lauren and Ned have 10 days to organise their wedding, set to take place in the Northern Territory, where Lauren grew up. But while the soon-to-be newlyweds are at the forefront of the storyline, it’s the other relationships in the film that keep you interested.
The complicated history between Lauren’s dad (Huw Higginson) and runaway mum (Ursula Yovich) sends Ned and Lauren on an unforgettable journey that will test the strength of their love ahead of their union and also reconnect Lauren with her heritage.
Despite the picturesque Australian landscape that serves as the film’s backdrop, Top End Wedding challenges the idea that every character needs to be glamorous, and the story, while often hilarious, is a raw and emotional take on a genre more usually seen as a guilty pleasure. Killer soundtrack, too. (Out now) 4 stars
