Classic 1990s teen drama Beverly Hills, 90210 has been back in the news lately. Tragically, star Shannen Doherty passed away on July 13, 2024, after a nine-year battle with breast cancer. She was 53.

Many of her 90210 cast mates have taken to Instagram to pay tribute to their former costar, with Jennie Garth describing her late friend as “one of the strongest people I have ever known.”

We were so often pitted against each other but none of that reflected the truth of our real relationship which was one built on mutual respect and admiration. She was courageous, passionate, determined and very loving and generous,” explained Garth. “I will miss her and will always honor her deeply in my heart and in my memories. My heart breaks for her family and Bowie and all the people who loved her.”

“Shocked and saddened to hear about the passing of my friend Shannen,” wrote Jason Priestly. “She was a force of nature and I will miss her. Sending love and light to her family in this dark time.”

Brian Austin Green also paid tribute to Doherty, writing; “Shan. My sister…You loved me through everything. You were a big part of my understanding of love. I’ll miss you more than I know how to process right now. Thank you for the gift of you.”

Doherty’s passing is just the latest tragedy to hit the long-running show’s cast. Luke Perry, another original cast member, passed away on Mar. 4 2019 after suffering a massive stroke a few days earlier.

Following the lives of a group of friends living in Beverly Hills as they transition from high school to college, the FOX show aired for ten years after premiering in 1990. Here’s what the original cast have been up to since the series ended.

The late actor had two stints as Dylan McKay on 90210, leaving during Season 6 to pursue his film career before returning for Seasons 9 and 10. After the show, he appeared in many other TV series, including Oz, Jeremiah, Will & Grace and Criminal Minds, and in 2017 became part of the regular cast for another teen drama: Riverdale, as Fred Andrews, the father of Archie (KJ Apa). He passed away in 2019.

After departing 90210 during the fourth season under a storm of controversy, Doherty, who played Brenda Walsh, appeared in film Mallrats and made a return to TV as one of the three leads of supernatural series Charmed, a role that also ended dramatically. Since then, the actress returned to 90210 (in the first reboot, playing Brenda once again) and, in the revival of Heathers (having appeared in the original film in 1988), as well as taking part in a number of reality shows. She has also battled serious health issues after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. In July 2024, she passed away aged 52.

Green’s onscreen love interest, Donna Martin, also lasted the distance, appearing in all 10 seasons of the show. Since then, Spelling has had guest roles in a number of TV shows (as well as featuring in the aforementioned Mystery Girls) and made several telemovies (including The Last Sharknado: It’s About Time in 2018), but is best known for her reality series that focused on her relationship and family life with then-husband Dean McDermott.
