It’s been a big year for blush! Rosy cheeks have been at the forefront of makeup looks, on and off the red carpet. From shimmery powders to pigmented liquid sticks, getting your hands on a hard-working blush is the key to a flushed complexion.
If you’re on the hunt for a new formula but not sure which to choose, we’ve enlisted the help of Nudestix co-founder Taylor Frankel, to share her expert blush advice.
Here she tells WHO all about the three popular blush formulas, which skin types they suit and her top tips for perfecting your application.

01
Cream
Perfect for dry skin types
For those who appreciate a simple formula that gives great results, a cream blush ticks all the boxes.
“I find creams to be the easiest to apply and to work with for those who are new to makeup or crave products that are fuss-free” says Taylor.
To get the most out the formula, she suggests to “make sure that your skin is prepped with a light moisturiser that absorbs quickly or has a bit of a grip to it” so don’t go overboard with too many water-based products beforehand.
When it comes to your application, Taylor suggests to “swipe this directly to the cheeks and blend with a brush or your fingers.”

02
Liquid
Ideal for all skin types
Another game-changing blush formula is the liquid kind and just a couple of drops is all you need to add a healthy flush to your cheeks.
“I love liquid blushes because they melt into the skin for the perfect skin-like finish” says Taylor.
“If you are using a liquid blush that is more pigmented with no hydrating benefits, I prefer to prep my skin with a natural skin tint or foundation”. Take so be sure to get your hands on a skin-loving BB cream for subtle coverage.
Focus on complementing your features by applying to the high points of your face along your cheek bones. “I prefer to place the colour on the back of my hand and buff it in with my brush to collect and diffuse the colour” Taylor suggests.

03
Powder
Best suited to oily skin types
Perfect for adding a natural rosiness to the cheeks in just a few swipes, this blush is a must-have in makeup artists’ bags. “I find powder blushes show up best on the skin with a light moisturiser and a little bit of a skin tint or foundation” says Taylor. So be sure to use this type of blush on any barely-there looks.
While they are suitable for all skin types, Taylor advises that “powder blushes are great for those who have oilier skin or perhaps want more of a matte finish”.
“The best method of application is taking a powder brush, collecting the product from the compact and swiping onto the cheeks” says Taylor.
