Meghan Markle’s tuxedo ban

It’s almost time for our favourite royal couple to grace Australian shores, but you won’t be seeing Meghan Markle in a suit.

The former actress star has been informed that a Stella McCartney tux is off the menu. Special projects teams have been called in to help create the Duchess’s wardrobe for her Antipodean tour but, according to Kensington Palace insiders, ‘Meghan is being told she needs to stop dressing like a Hollywood star and start dressing like a Royal. Meghan wanted to wear a tuxedo-style suit but Harry said it wasn’t traditional enough.’

Dressing appropriately is a battle for us all, but with royal etiquette to consider it’s a no-go zone.

Female CEO Mary Barra would likely side with Meghan. Barra recently rewrote her company’s dress code and brought it down from 10 pages to two words: ‘dress appropriately’. So, what does the palace consider appropriate?

Meghan would look amazing in a brown sack but with a list of non-official dress code rules – such as neutral nails and pantyhose at all times, Meghan may struggle to fulfil her own fashion desires. And it’s not that it’s one rule for you and another for me. The Queen has only been seen wearing trousers in public 8 times. Ever.

Meghan has already broken tradition by exposing her shoulders at the Trooping the Colour so if she wants to stay in her majesty’s good books, she’d better line up the pencil skirts and stockings a la Rachel Zane.
