A wedding dress is one of those extra special outfits, so when a celebrity gets married we can’t help but analyse every inch of their stunning designer gowns.
Whilst some famous brides opt to go down the traditional route (we’re looking at you Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle), others have been known to make a fashion statement on their big day.
Some celebrities like Gwen Stefani and Jessica Biel opted to forego tradition and wear pink for their respective weddings, while others like Amal Clooney and Solange Knowles chose pants.
Then there are those who say, “To hell with that long dress I’m probably going to trip over, I’m picking something shorter so I can move and dance easier.”
From 20th century stars including Audrey Hepburn and Yoko Ono right, through to 2022 bride Kourtney Kardashian who donned not one but two short wedding dresses for her many nuptials with husband Travis Barker, short dresses have been popular with a mix of famous brides.
So without further ado, we’ve rounded up our favourite celebrity wedding dresses with a higher than average hemline.
Audrey Hepburn
Hollywood icon Audrey’s most famous frock is arguably her Breakfast at Tiffany’s LBD, but the actress and humanitarian was radiant on her 1969 wedding day.
Audrey wed Italian psychiatrist Andrea Dotti in a pink Hubert de Givenchy long-sleeve mini dress paired with a matching headscarf and accessorised with white tights and white ballet flats.
The starlet also wore a shorter-than-average dress for her first wedding to Mel Ferrer in 1954, but we reckon it was second time lucky.
Yoko Ono
Not only was she a huge influence over her husband John Lennon, but Yoko Ono was something of a fashion influencer when she wed the Beatles superstar in March 1969.
The polarising artist, who many dubbed the reason for the band’s break up, oozed sixties chic when she wore a tiered mini skirt, knee-high socks, plimsolls and a white sunhat for her big day, topped off with dark sunglasses.
Cindy Crawford
To be honest, she’d look good in a bin bag, but Cindy Crawford kept things super casual when she and businessman Rande Gerber married in a beach ceremony in 1998.
The nineties supermodel said “I do” in a John Galliano mini lace shift dress (bought off-the-rack) and went barefoot. Talk about a natural beauty!
“I wanted to look like the best version of the girl Rande loves waking up to every morning,” Cindy wrote in her 2015 book, Becoming.
Rachael McAdams
Ok, so this may not have been her official wedding dress, but Rachael McAdams was perfection in pink for her starring role in The Vow.
In the 2012 romantic flick, she donned a feminine mini dress with a matching pale pink veil to marry her on-screen husband played by Channing Tatum and in doing so proved that not all wedding gowns need to be white with a long train.
Jasmine Yarbrough
It was the Aussie wedding of 2018 when shoe designer Jasmine Yarbrough tied the knot with Today‘s Karl Stefanovic in a lavish Mexican soiree – and the bride shocked fans by opting for something totally unexpected.
The J. Andreatta dress took six months to custom create and the short hemline was overlaid with a long detachable skirt with beaded Aztec motifs, as a homage to the wedding location.
Jasmine told Vogue Brides that her dress was inspired by the frock worn by Polish supermodel Anja Rubik on her big day, admitting that she’d “always loved” that look.
“She had an idea in mind of what she wanted and she showed me some references, and knowing the setting, we combined our ideas together and came up with the concept,” designer Jess Andreatta added.
Lily Allen
For her first wedding, Lily Allen kept things long, white, lacy and traditional, but much like Audrey Hepburn, we are loving her second wedding dress just a touch more.
The singer-songwriter stunned fans when she revealed that she and partner David Harbour had tied the knot in an impromptu Las Vegas ceremony and wore a sixties inspired Dior frock valued at around $4,000.
The fact that she was unafraid to eat an In-N-Out burger in said dress just made us love her even more.
Kourtney Kardashian
Kourt chose short hemlines for two of her wedding dresses, which she wore to two out of her three wedding ceremonies to husband Travis Barker. No one can say this woman does things by halves!
For their legal marriage in California, the reality star chose a Dolce & Gabanna mini dress featuring a gold bleeding heart detail just below the bust.
She kept things short and sweet with a matching veil that cut off at the elbows and a pair of sheer, fingerless opera gloves.
But it was a different story for her lavish nuptials in Italy soon after, the bride donning a huge and intricately detailed lace veil over her tiny corsetted Dolce & Gabanna wedding dress.
Inspired by classic Italian lingerie, the dress was made from lace and satin and left very little to the imagination – but Kourtney looked phenomenal on her big day.
